Cutting down the old paint.

Here’s the old paint that didn’t match. I’m leaving this mostly intact as I cut TONS of old paint off the door and I need a little height.

Here’s what makes Baby Jesus cry. This fender is 2/3’s rust and Bondo. The inside is heavy scale and flaking in spots, plus the fender lip is samshed inwards.

More mud than the damn bayou.

Ah, the hell with it then.

Note the plugs on the top of the old fender. Eech.

The other fender is 35374639 times better. It still needs work, sure, but it’s worth saving.

And, these things are just cool, LED front indicator lights.

Good Update!

One more quickie:

This was not a simple bolt on though, this had to be finessed, and beat, and cut, and even heated and bent in one spot to ensure a good fit. That said, it looks pretty good gapwise now.

Beer time!

About damn time we see some updates. Post some on our site since people have been waiting.

Replacement fender > rotted old one
Less time, less headache, and new

Done and done. I really had been meaning to update that.

I’m hoping that is the last of the major purchases this summer for her. Also picked up some primer/sealer at Al Wils again, got bullshitting about Sevendust and Vanek, and they threw in a stack of mixing cups longer than my arm and a stack of mixing sticks

Very nice! Killer ride! thumbs up to total redo! what are your plans for wheels? stocker look or retro mod?

making sure you get the highest quality repops is greater than star

lookin good, man. lot of elbow grease going on there

I really love the look of the Torque Thrust D, but I want to go with a more modern look. A company called Vintage Wheel works has a set of wheels called Vintage 45 that looks killer. I’d go no bigger than 17" (classic car wheelwells aren’t as big as modern cars, so a smaller wheel looks ginormous in there).

Here they are in 17" x 9.5" on a green '69. I think the stance here is pretty damn spot on what I want to do:

Ugh.

Just enough sidewall showing, great wheel-to-tire ratio, no rubbing, and they’re different enough to be picked out, but aren’t the focal point. Notice too the little bit of gold in the spokes - goes frickin great with a dark green paintjob.

they look nice man

always been a fan of the Halibrand Cobra II’s though myself… they look rad on old mustangs (and shelby cobras)

Not sure how I missed this thread. I love DIY threads and this one is great.

Just a quick update -

Here’s some work done to the taillights. These were rotted away pretty badly as you can see. I managed to secure some new buckets and parts for the assemblies.

Think these needed some TLC

New ones were cleared and heat treated to cure them. Also secured new bezels, mounts, inner and outer shell rubber gaskets, and

Some slightly nicer lenses. :stuck_out_tongue:

Taillight assemblies are complete at this point.

I love this pic for some reason, just looks pissed…

Hell, that actually looks like a car now.

It’s actually quite bit further than this but I don’t have pics yet. It’s one color now…

good to hear tom, keep up the good work

Looks like its coming along man ,way to go  I like that last pic too, i could picture this thing looking totally pissed when its done

looks good, cant wait to see it done.

First coat of satin black is on…

Yeah, I might have to leave it like this for a while. Pics coming when I finish coat it.

First off, Sorry about the lighting, was getting late by the time I could snap these.

Yeah, it still needs to be wetsanded. Yeah, the wheels are dusty. Yeah, it’s still missing some trim pieces. But, it came out pretty well and I want to share :stuck_out_tongue:

I shot the car with two wet coats of DuPont Ful-Poxy epoxy primer/sealer and a single stage DuPont Centari “Pitch Black” 99A with a hardener, 8:2:1, plus 40% DuPont flattener. Sunday, I reassembled the rest of the car.

Seriously, it looks 3634785639 times better in person!!

But for now - Enjoy. See you on the road!

Got my turnsignal hood working, too!

well its about damn time!

such a sexy car.
