thats shitty to hear brother. lets do an 454 LSX…that would be cool fo sho

Did you figure out what went wrong? Autopsies can be very educational.

oh we know what went wrong. the pickup tube fell off and caused no oil pressure after an extremely spirited run.
rj:
motor wasn’t fresh from machine shop. just did a heads/intake swap.
as stated above pats the man… he needs breakfast in bed first thing tommorrow… he deserves it

What’s with all these motors blowing up fresh out of the machine shop? I have heard a lot of horror stories with engine machining/building the last 2 years.
[/quote]
Because people fucking SUCK at details. Thats why.
And it doesnt help that 95% of the shops out there dont give a shit about their customers anymore. The “hand shake” days are long gone, nobody is accountable for anything anymore. The shit I see come out of big tuners/shops is fucking ridiculous. Then when it fails or if I/someone catches it first, they look the other way and want nothing to do with it, knowing it will cost more to sue them than its worth.
The phone call I had to make today to explain to one of my older mail-order customers how another shop that worked on his engine last year, which subsequently came apart, FUCKED him out of his 20,000$ engine due to their laziness, lack of attention to detail and stupidity… and there is nothing he can do to prove it. It made me fucking sick. Now he is stuck with a $15,000+ repair bill due to circumstances, even though they technically cost him that engine on Day 1… we just didnt know it until now.
are you sure you didnt just blow a pump? thats what mine did when i blew a pump. no damage to the motor just cracked the pump gear
edit: didnt see pats post. why not jsut drop the pan and put the pick up back on and fire it back up. im sure you didnt do any damage. you were at 0 for what a few seconds.
 he figured he just spun a bearing and it wasn’t the oil pump so he said fuck it and drove home…
It was sweet
wow thats sucks.
Ive seen0 and just fixed a pickup, or pulled somthing off the screen. And it was ok after that.
weld that shit on, i thought BBC had a holing bolt? SBC,and pontiac v8s dont i know.
I had a problem with an engine from Jan Cen. Called them, they told me to bring it in. Called me to tell me to pay for the new rings and they covered everything else. I dunno if it needed machine work or not but, just paying for rings and not having a problem after was nice. (Even though I ended up chipping 3 out of 6 pistons a few months later.

that was probably the dumbest thing you could do. you ruined the motor. when you spin a bearing you will still have oil pressure it will just be super low and you will hear it knocking. when you go from good oil pressure to 0 then you broke something, like a pump, pick up or filter collapsed but the motor was probably still fine.

The oil psi went to 0 then was super low 20-30psi and such when driving…sorry he wasn’t more descriptive.

the bearings where worn from before. so i did not care as i planned on redoing it. it wasnt knocking, right when i got to my shop 2 of the bearings where just about to spin.
My dad and his motor builder builds the best all motor engines. He ahs a 572 that made 998, a 468 that made 760 anda 327 that made 450. Idk what they do to them but they are some crazy motors.

20-30 = super low? try 12 at idle and 25 under normal driving.

next time do what the LT1 boys do and just weld the damn puickup on :mamoru:
OH BTW my motor HOTT idle around 10-15psi and 45-50 WOT. runs beautiful and even holds on the spray. Just a thing with LT1s, just saying runnng low psi isnt always somthing bad happened lol

Your supposed to braze it on not weld it…
