My Build Thread LS1/FD Its Fast!

i’ll bring the camera to work monday…

Thanks Pat!

Car should be back out cruising by wed if the parts show up. Thanks Pat for finishing this thing up for me. Pat is doing a bunch of finishing touches and troubleshooting some things. I am going to keep working on small things until the car is as close to 100% as can be.

it’s enjoyable to do on a saturday when i don’t have to worry about the phone or customers so much. the intake turned out great. having turn signals and such will keep the cops off your ass. having the wiring not rubbing the wheels is a good thing. The steering wheel being straight is nice too. Now to sort the tach out then decide where you want the shift light and i’ll get on it. In hindsight i wish i had taken the harness out while nothing was in the car and went through it.

I’m ready to knock this out anytime…

Luke i just sent you a pm. I think I figured out the oil pressure gauge as well. So I will now have 100% working gauges!!! For anyone interested in what happens to the tach on these it will work but have a bouncing needle. You would swear its a bad ground so you spend hours in the wiring lol. Then some sexy fella like pat sends you this link.

This is where Luke comes in as to me this is jibberish.

Car should be ready to cruise again Wednesday. Maybe.

We need to race

Im down. We can do it out your way too cause my sister lives there and I feel bad I don’t visit enough. I just ordered a 14lbs battery and think I am going to do an abs delete and put my battery under hood. I am looking to get the weight to 2700lbs with a full tank of gas in street trim. Then ~2600lbs race trim.

Why delete ABS? The FD has an extremely capable system.

Yeah, I heard you were going to be out last weekend, just let me know next time you’re out here!

+1 don’t want to skid and not be able to turn!

I am still on the fence on this. But honestly abs has done nothing but aggravate me on other track cars.

Cool I will let you know.

Cool story!

Done deal…I’m on it.

I know at least one quite experienced person using full slicks and tracking the car who has added ABS back to the FD because removing it hurt the car’s performance. I would never remove it unless I was building the car for drag only.

There are also plenty of experienced fd drivers that remove it because it hinders their performance. I personally cant stand abs. If you know how to drive a non abs car this should not be an issue. Also if you are used to racing a non abs car I think abs can really screw you up.

I think it’s the ABS-powered traction control that brent is talking about. It’s basically the shiznit for RX7 drag racing, when properly set up. Slicks also handle that issue though

Nah, I’m talking about regular braking ABS. Most people think they’re better than the ABS computer, but most people are wrong - especially when you have a very capable system like the one in the FD.

You are not talking about a factory piece, that is the racelogic? setup. Either way I have slicks and am not worried about abs at all. Like I have said it is drivers preference and if i do delete it it is not a big deal to put back in if I decide I would be happier with it. Either way as always I do not really value outside opinion lol so if/when I decide it goes…it goes.

It is not that simple at all. You know people are used to driving with abs or not. For someone who learned to drive hard and is capable of it on non abs cars it is hard/annoying to adapt to abs. This is not something up for debate or a group decision of any kind. This is and has always been my issue with build threads and internet opinion interjection.

I understand you prefer it on YOUR car.

I however DO NOT.

ABS is definitely a driver’s preference

I’m just saying most people’s egos are way larger than their driving skills. That may or may not be the case here.

Cool. I still hate abs. Do not care if it end up costing me a few tenths around the track. I care about building this car and driving it how I want it. That is the point of this build and the point of doing something this in depth. To build a car 100% the way the owner desires it. Bottom line.
