Samberg Rod and Custom. The guy I referred you to originally…either of his rear subframes would have helped you a TON.
11.8 is moving. I’m just busting your balls. Good luck moving forward.
Ummm yeah im sure you are trying to enjoy an i told you so moment but #1 I had no wheelhop whatsoever and #2 I Promise dead hooking on slicks would have blown a stock diff even using their cradle. Anyone can suggest a 3k solution suck as the the ford 8.8" conversion I am now going to do…but I feel better knowing I blew up the stock one first.
I know you are sweetie. Going to order everything for the ford swap monday.
If anyone knows of a IRS cobra diff FS please let me know.
Hey, do what you want. You ignore my advice anyway. I don’t know why I even bother.
I will continue to ignore shitty advice. A samberg cradle would have been a WASTE of money. It was not and is still not worth money to make UPGRADES based on keeping the STOCK REAR in there. That is the dumbest shit i have ever fucking heard. Now that it is done I am going to a real solution using the ford 8.8" IRS setup. Still weak but a far better solution then throwing money at trying to preserve factory ones. You act like they dont break when people use that subframe hahaha. Get over it your “advice” is not gold.
Bro if you had ABS this wouldn’t have happened…
just sayin
LOL
Srsly guys I had all intentions of exploding the factory rear. It is not a big deal at all. looking forward to see if the 8.8" can handle my abuse. Once I have the conversion axles and driveshaft I will probably try to get a spare. Don’t want down time
install the wheelies, don’t them come in the Trex box???
Self. Tapers.
You stole them! Good seeing ya last night.
Fix. Everything.
What a sick build. I didn’t even know you were doing this. Great job. Looks awesome.
8.8 will handle whatever you got as long as you dont have any rubber bushings. tons of 03/04 cobra dudes cut 1.5s in IRS but with badass bushings, with a ton more weight too. did you weigh that thing when you were at the track?
that thing is the best looking car ever with the best motor ever. < yup, i just said that.
Thanks man. Come check it out sometime.
Car weighs ~2700 at the track I am looking to get it to ~2600 lol. Thanks for the compliment I am super in love with how the car is coming together.
So here is what I am ordering tomorrow.
Ford 8.8" IRS
Ford inner axle stubs
DSS Axles for the conversion :ballin:
http://www.driveshaftshop.com/pdetail.php?pid=134
DSS custom driveshaft
The following are to rebuild the diff:
bushings from these guys
Samberg 8.8" cradle
Either 4.10 or 4.30 gears as well. Not sure yet.
What’s the cobra IRS made of? I know the 8.8 IRS in my Mark 8 is aluminum which saves a bit of weight, and they should be cheaper than one out of a cobra just because it’s not out of a cobra.
Where are you living now?
Yeah I am actually going to swap in a Mark 8 or T-bird rear. It is just known as the “cobra” diff swap. Thats why i said ford irs rear. Its amazing how similar they are and yet the mark 8 and t-bird ones are wayyyyyy cheaper. I believe they are 28 spline and the mustang ones are 31. T-bird ones are iron.
North Buffalo parkside area.
One thing to watch out for with the Mark VIII IRS is none of them came with a trac-lok, because of the traction control, so you have to get a trac-lok assembly like this http://supercoupeperformance.com/partBrowser.aspx?partId=599 Supercoupeperformance.com is a pretty good place to get 8.8 IRS stuff.
“Many V8 Tbirds/Cougars from '91-97…check your axle code on the door and use a Ford shop manual to decode if you have a TL installed or not.”
This is what I am going after. There is a tab on there and it tell you if is has LSD and the gear in it. The dif with LSD is typically under $200. Too bad the rest of the shit I need is so expensive. But the point of me doing this is to get to something that is much harder to break and once I have all the conversion pieces it will be cheap any time I do break it. Same reason for an ls1 swap too actually haha. Thanks for looking out though! I will see ya at the track soon.
Just went and got a diff. Didn’t want to spend hours and hours to save a few bux so I grabbed one of the open diffs then ordered all the rebuild stuff above, track-lok lsd, and am still on the fence for gears.
Everything has been ordered minus gears which i will think about and order tomorrow morning. So I should have the diff to a shop to be build within the next 3-5 days then hopefully they don’t take long and i can get this shit all in the car!
Now that I have all the big ticket items I can blow these up at will haha the actual center section is only about $100
so is this build approaching newman land, or did you manage to keep it somewhat easy on the wallet?
