Bring it back, get them to wetsand and buff…

agreed… congrats on the paintjob… a wetsanding though will make a world of a difference.

remove sleepy eyes, other than that it looks good

It’s the painted lower lip that makes it look like it has serious orange peel.

Not just that dude, look at the driver fender in the 1st pic and the light cover in the 2nd.

Id ask for them to resand it and respray.

Theres no clear on that paint is there…

Looks to be the old school kind of paint used.

ya why does the lip look like that? And definetaly get rid of the sleepy eyes, just doesn’t look right. Other than that, congrats on a newish lookin 240

Sorry mate, those angles suck. Take some from further away so we can
get a better look.

I know you are showcasing your paint but you got to expect that from
black paint (orange peel, swirl, etc.)

What are you new?

When I got my fender back from Mike Fair It looked like glass…

I expect all freshly painted black cars to look like fcuking glass.

Have you seen the new Cadilac XTS’s?

Orange Peel times 42.3

I appreciate the replys… the lip and some of the underbody is sprayed with the rough paint, to prevent nicks and scratches and thus to prevent rust. I kinda didnt want the lip painted like that, but I cant begin to tell you how much rust there was, I dont want to have to go through this again.

Loyal Trust Auto & Body on Red Maple in Richmond Hill is where I got it done, he gave me a really good price on it, so I kind of cant really complain. I had the framerails and parts of the underbody fixed, as it was rusted to hell. Part of the body, usual cancer spots, had rusted through so I had them cut it all out and put in new metal. This is a big difference to what I had, and Im pretty happy with the results.

These pictures where taken about 18 hours after the car had come out of the baker, so I still need to let the paint settle in a bit. I will take some more maybe tomorrow and post them up, and Ill be at the GTA north meet tomorrow.

Thanks again

Jon

lip? urethane? rust? :?

paint is nice and pretty… theres pros and cons on all things :stuck_out_tongue: as long as ur paint is good for another 10yrs lol… anyways good ur car looks new and u dont have to live with the rust u once had  :thumleft:

if i were you like the other guys were saying you need a final wetsand stage on that. Either they cheaped out on the wet sand or didn’t clear it. I am most liekly thinking they haven’t done the wet sand because you usually have to wait until the paint settles fully in order to do that final step. I am sure if you take it back they can do it for you for free or very cheap. After that giving it a good buff will make it look like a brand new 240. You have spent a nice amout of money by now i’m sure so might aswell do it properly.

Just some input man, goodluck

They rocker guarded your lip?

Single stage acrylic can look like glass too. That’s a result of sloppy prepwork. Looks like oil and a lot of fish eyes. Did you Armorall the interior at any point?

If it was a 2 stage paint (base clear) without clear, it would look flat.Base coats are flat, the shine comes from the clear.

I can also see tape marks and filler that hasn’t been properly shaped on the rear quarter.

Did they dissassemble the car? The fit and finish is bad, it looks like the lip was forced back on, all the gaps are off. The reason I ask, is if they didn’t dissassemble it, this car was hit hard at some point in its life.

And they used what looks like the wrong primer on the plastic parts. Notice how the car is 2 different shades of black?

Sorry man, I don’t mean to sound like an ass, but I hope you didn’t pay much for this. Looks like a Maaco/Fairdeal paint job. I bet it came with a 1 year warranty too right? Dollars to donuts, day 366, it’ll be coming apart. If that bad bondo on the quarter is from the standard 240 rotting itself from the inside out, it’ll probably be back even sooner.

Black cars should look like glass. New cars come with orange peel sure, but that’s laziness on the part of the factory. Black is just a whole lot quicker to show bad prep work. White hides everything

Best way to truly remove orange peel (and yes if you paint and painter is good is should be a minumum thankfully mine was). Is to bring it in, wetsand the car with 1200 paper. Then make sure the surface is free from any oils, dirt whatever. Next respray the car with clear this time the clear will look like glass since its going on a nice smooth and dry surface. The orange peeling from what my painter told me is in part due to not allowing enough flash time between coats and laying paint on to thick. I am planing on double clearing my car so its like glass.

why would you want to re clear the car again after wetsanding? Why not just wetsand and polish? The whole purpose of wetsanding is to remove imperfections in the paint and to make the paint look like glass. There is still a possibility that when the car gets re cleared there may be imperfections in the clear aswell like runs or whatever which means you would have to wetsand again to remove that. If i were you i would just tell who ever is painting your car to to put some extra coats of clear and then give the car a good wetsand and polish. The reason for the extra coats of clear is because when your wetsanding you wont have to worry about burning through the clear as easily.
