Painted Lip

Well I had a cracked lip from a curb riding adventure so here it is, repainted.

First Step : OEM Nissan tire changer lift/jack FTW! I used this and a set of very ghetto tools to remove the lip. The bolts were so rusted that the only way we could get them off is by snapping them or cutting them with a hacksaw.

Second Step : The lip took approx an hour to lube, snap, cut etc…but now you can see the crack and how terrible it actually is. This was in the first sanding stage.

Third Step : The lip was attempted to be fixed using body filler. I applied a layer of bondo, sanded down and applied another coat in some areas.

Fourth Step : Sanded it down using a rough paper than a sponge just before I applied 2 coats of white primer. The problem here was that I had no spray primer and brush strokes were left in some area’s.

Fifth Step : The primer has dried and it is time to paint. I grabbed some plastic cover, shoebox and simply sprayed it with some Black Gloss rattle can. I applied a few layers in the matter of an hour or two letting them dry outside with sunlight.

My 240 right after I butchered the lip off :

After all that work the final result makes me smile…

Pretty sweet for a few hours and few rattle cans of effort

not bad, good job.

i love your jack stands aka the 9 peices of wood stacked. better be safe at least you have something to support it instead of a jack.

good job on fixing it tho. i know who to bug next time i go curb riding also

If you spray any other peices down the road try duplicolors black bumper coating, its a more satin black finish which imo looks richer…the bumper coating takes a beating to crack or chip. Down the road when you get a few chips pull it off and spray with bumper coating…you’ll be damn near just as happy as you were when that lip went back on the car painted garunteed!

Will do. I was thinking of getting a clearcoat spray but thought its gonna just crack, chip etc being so low so why waste it. I will just repsray!

scuff the lip reaall good buddy! then wipe it down with wax/grease remover if you have…but more importantly gasoline anti-freeze. It opens up the pores and the bumpercoating will soak into the lip and be extremily tough. Wont take long either now that youve got fresh hardware on there. I like it black tho very much…just not the gloss look

My original idea was flat black…until like 1/8th of the way through it ran out hahah. I will wait until tomorow or something and see how it actually looks in the sun and what not.
