the headers and front end bits will probably be the next items i address. i have the bumper cover ready to install, and i’m using some black hood pins as my bumper quick release setup. i just finished roughly cleaning up the cover and will install it and shoot some new pics as soon as the pins arrive in the mail. there are a few more things not pictured like the water temp gauge and the sub & amp.

i also pretty much came to the conclusion it is a better idea to keep my daily n/a and just boost the m50. the bmw will only be run during spring through fall for obvious reasons, which i won’t even touch on now. here are a few pics of the gli as it stands. none of the euro plate, and euro plate tub yet though, will get them when i shoot the front bumper.

i will try and update the thread as often as possible. enjoy! ;D

open downpipes before exhaust: :mwahaha :thumb

nice car, has a cop stoped u for the bent plate?

thank you, :tong

negative on the plate question. i just get profiled like everyone else here for stupid stuff. no speeding tickets, just random shit for the locals to generate some revenue. ::slight_smile: :wtf

there are a few other people running the bent front plate around. one is my old roommate mike, who also has an mk2.

i have received 2 “no front plate” tickets in the bmw though for having it in the windshield once, and out of the car all together another time. i can understand the one for not having it at all, but on the flipside, new york is one of a few states that even requires a front plate at all. just another way to stick it to us, and drain our pockets, but this is a whole other story. i’m rambling in here cuz its my thread… lol :stfu

Wow :wow that thing is fucking SWEET!, i love it and it sounds pretty badass. Have you ever gotten bothered for the exhaust?

thanks man…

yeah i got an exhaust ticket like a week and a half ago, but those videos are with no exhaust except the downpipe. those were just after my buddy and i hacked off the stock system. my exhaust is really not that loud, and i am convinced the cop was just going out of his way to try and screw me. :wtf

a cop had never even looked at me before, then the 'ol schenectady scummers stopped me.

SAE regulation J-1169

exhaust can be no louder than 94 db.

SAE testing guidelines:
-20" from tip
-45 degree angle
-3/4 throttle (pretty much revving the piss out of it, which i don’t really do)

the same guy i built my exhaust with went out and picked up a decibel meter after he got an exhaust ticket himself. i will probably test it this weekend to further prove to myself, that there is no way its 94 db with this setup. my resonator is 28" itself. here is a video right after the exhaust was installed. keep in mind it was filmed in a closed garage at around 2am the same day as the other clips i posted with no exhaust. i had just plugged the o2 sensor back in as well. (it idled rough for a second.) the exhaust sounds even better than it does in the video since its broken in. the clip really does it no justice. i’ve been told it sounds like a big sportbike or something by a handful of people. :mwahaha :ninja

if anyone that has a camera is interested in helping me out, i’d take a couple “flyby” clips or something. ;D

yeah, it does sound like a sport bike, that’s sick :thumb

yeah i know, thanks again for your kind words. i can’t wait for the headers and gutted intake manifold, it’ll sound even meaner. theres just something about that vr6 sound. the shit is like intoxicating. :wow

That sounds great- a 28-inch ‘resonator’ does wonders for the exhaust note!

thanks man. :thumb

yeah the magnaflow has one of the best tones IMO. i ran it with just the magnaflow, and no resonator, as a test and it wasn’t even over powering.

now who has a camera that’ll do some clips??? :ponder

Where do you live?
I think i saw this thing on bought road in latham… but maybe not

you’ve definitely seen me over there! :tong

i work off wade rd. so i’m in latham quite a bit.

these will be holding on my front bumper cover soon.

the jetta or the bimmer?

Seeing this is his jetta build http://smiliesftw.com/x/banana-mario.gif

…i’d say his jetta

he’s said he’s planned on fabricating some sort of quick release for the e36 bumper, that’s why i ask

I think it’s for BMW too? :confused

heheheh yeah yeah, i will do “quick release” setups for both cars. :nod

on the jetta i don’t really mind if the pins are visible. it also has a lot of nice flat spots for the pins to mount.

on the e36 i will most likely opt for quarter turn dzus fasteners, which will be hidden under the rub strips. :ninja

i like, or even if you notched out the moldings to commodate/still keep the molding on…ya know?

yeah benny, ultimately, that is my plan. i really don’t want the fasteners to be seen on the bimmer. i prefer the front bumper to be “clean” just like it is. some of the fasteners i’ve seen are pretty small, so with any luck, coast fab. or someone else will have just the ticket. :tong

nice car. i’d love to see what this car could do against an mk2 swapped TDI with a couple bolt ons… :banana ;D
