My luck had been shit lately: '04 sti help

That’s a 4-1/2 hour drive good luck.

Sucks dude, you should have got a E36 M3. :stuck_out_tongue:

Good luck working that all out, I thought I had it bad when the vette started burning oil on the rally. Oh well.

You spent as much as that turbo was new just to get the vette home. You did have it bad.

I just bought a cobra that needs valve seals. Sucks but you gotta expect it on something like this. I know common sense says build the motor while its out but what if you tried just replacing the ringlands yourself? Machining is what kills you so if it needs machining then just buy a pre-built shortblock since it’s usually cheaper than having one built, and part your stock shit out, whatever is good. Good luck.

I know…:frowning:

That would have been a good set of heads of a Warlock block.

Let me know when you rip into the cobra. I’ll let you know what I have planned for the C5 once I finish up everything on the house. :snky:

Wow sorry to hear. I test drove that car last spring and it ran awesome. Was really contemplating it myself. But this is just the nature of the game with modifying a car.

On another note, people were bitching bout ebay turbos in one of my posts, yet $1400 FP turbos seem to be no better. lol :shithitfan:

Word.

Ok, i’m still at work. I have been since 5 am. It’s been a long day, and then I check nyspeed real quick and see MAD DRAMA in a thread I haven’t commented on in weeks. WTF.

Anywho, for you you drama queens here’s my full situation. Hopefully this will shut up the people posting false accusations and information.

As you may know from my OP, I get the car home to Albany and all is well. Long story short… after a short highway pull I noticed something wasn’t right. I shut her down and upon restarting she made a puff of smoke from the hot/cold side of the turbo and out of the exhaust. My initial diagnosis was a bad turbo seal. Just to re-assure myself AGAIN, I took the car to Synapse Motorsports outside of Albany. They ran another comp test and immediately determined cyl 4 was only reading 60 psi. Common problem, bad ringland… sucks but it happens.

Now let me back up a minute. Before purchasing the car I did gobs of research on it. I spoke with the previous owner Chino, Innovative, and the current owner at the time Mike. All had good things to say about the car and everything checked out. I even went as far as to schedule a comp/leakdown on the car at innovative before I bought it. That all checked out. I liked what I saw, it drove great, pulled like a freight train. I bought it, I was happy.

Fast forward to my current situation after getting it back home. Synapse determined 60 psi on cyl # 4. They are a reputable shop around here so I decided to leave the car with them, have them order a raw stage one shortblock with forged cp pistons, as well as start gathering some other parts needed for the teardown and rebuild. I am currently working to see if the “aftermarket warranty” will cover anything lol. They are sending a claims rep out today actually. (crosses fingers)

Regardless, the car will have a new subi block with forged pistons, resurfaced heads, new gaskets, oil pump, tb, tb tensioner etc etc. It is being put back together properly. (no i’m not driving it 400 miles with a cracked piston LOL)

As far as the detonation that caused the ringland to crack. First of all, with the design of these engines and the fuel rail, cyl #4 always runs the leanest. THe detonation could have been caused by poor gas OR by failing seals in the turbo causing oil to get in the intake. I AM NO MECHANIC, and this is what I know right now based off research and talking with reputable people.

I am pretty sure during the teardown process I will send the turbo out to be rebuilt for now. I just don’t think I can afford an upgrade at this point. We’ll see.

Ugh now i’m rambling.

Ok now this is the only drama I am going to stir up. An old thread was brought to my attention. Please someone tell me definitively that this is in fact NOT the turbo on my car, or that it WAS in fact rebuilt.

Seriously my brain hurts today. My head is spinning. I hope this made sense.:suicide:

like i said, why wouldnt you just pm me? no thats not yours, i sold that turbo to some guy on nasioc. it was setup for ewg and such and the one i purchased from todd (rrsti) here on the boards. the turbo you had was the good fp that i did. i wish i never got rid of that one, it was the only one ive ever had in perfect shape

Ok then, drama squashed. My bad for not PM’ing you.

no worries, i dont mind helping a fellow sti owner. make sure you stay on fp, they can sometimes be hard to deal with when it comes to rebuilds. glad to hear you are building the block, make sure to upgrade the fuel rails and systems and such too. good luck with everything. itll be even more of a monster after all of this

Foh Shooo

thanks for clearing everything up maxwell…i just dont want people pointing fingers at me saying i sold a broken car, because i would NEVER do that…when in fact the thing was in very good shape less then 5% in each cylinder and pulled like a train…good luck with the rebuild ill be very interested to see what new numbers it puts down.

good luck with the rebuild, a friend of mine had his 05 STi all built up before i moved to new york and i remember his fuel system was insane because of #4 runs leaner then all the other cylinders, but good luck with everything im sure she will be a beast when its all said and done

That sucks man, good luck. It’s an opportunity to upgrade! Be happy you caught yours before the piston got jammed into the heads or any other REAL expensive damage happened. AllSubaru.com is your friend for all of the OEM stuff like pulleys, the gasket kit ect.

Oil getting burned degrades octance but I didn’t think you would fuck the motor with one pull. I guess it was a stock motor and pushing decent power, and if STi’s already have a problem with cylinder 4 being lean. Good luck with zee rebuild, forged pistons will be a nice touch. Plus you have plenty of good stock engine parts to sell. Between that and selling the rebuilt green should make for a nice big turbo. HAHA.

hi im gleason

?

lol… YES.

Hello!
