bet its expensive to start a saltwater tank tho
sweet
The last pic taken above is a tank I setup about 3 years ago. It is a SPS tank(small polyp stony) corals consisting mostly of Acropora, Montipora, and Porites. Expensive to say the least, most corals in that tank at expensive shops will range from $120-250 each. The tank has a 400 watt metal halide(good for growing anything that needs light ), and 4 x 110wt VHO’s(very high output fluorescent bulbs). Most newcomers to the hobby really don’t enjoy this type of tank as much as some of the previous pictures because there isn’t any of the “swaying in the water” movement. Some of these corals can range easily in the $500+ range. Trying to duplicate the ocean in a closed system environment is a challenge at first but after a few years and you segregate all the bullshit from whats needed they are quite easy but still expensive. One thing about saltwater is that over mineralization of the water really has a nasty toll on invertebrates. Every drop of water I use is Reverse Osmosis water. Anyone using tap water will never be successful in the hobby longterm, atleast not in pittsburgh. Estimated prices for setups are 25gallon($450), 55 gallon ($900), 125 gallon($1300+)
EDIT: I’ll post some more pics of some fish and cool corals/inverts later on.
We have a 55 gallon tank…but haven’t done anything with it. It just sits in our basement. We got it from my girlfriends older sister who went with a 125 gallon, built in to their wall in their game room
This is my GF’s dads tank thats 90 Gal. He had some trouble with the tank resently, but changed somethings around and everything seems to be ok.
The blue tang magically got out of the tank and ended up in the bathroom behind the toliet (room next to the tank) And died
nice, i gotta immigrant pet, an Australian flying sugarglyder (miniature flying squirrel)
i’ll snap some pics.
i think that octo is throwing up his gang signs in the last pic, hehe
ZEX do you always hijack threads so you can try and ohh ahh some people trying to sound like a know it all. You post up pics about a reef tank and start talking about it wich had ZERO to do with the topic on hand. Then you try and tell me plastic leeches and is bad…Your serious right…UMM every pump, and all the plumbing is made of plastic. Plastic is 100% safe in fish tanks.
I am sorry but you kinda sound like the typical retail know it all. Like all the bestbuy circuit city people.
My sister has three sugarsliders. She is looking to get rid of them, but is having trouble finding someone to take them.
