Trailered the 951 down to the BlownEuroz meet in Philly. Man trailering in the winter really takes it’s toll on paint. Thank god it’s more “race” and less “show”
Anyway, washed my car, worked on tidying a few things in the car up today.
Just thought I’d share a couple pics. Anyone have any good suggestions for clearing up fog on lexan? My hatch is getting a bit foggy.
I’ve never polished me a lexan before. I’d have to read up. And I don’t know of many other detailers in the area other than Mike (tpgsr) and dealers.
There’s a detailer in Albany (I think they call themselves “the detailed image” or something) but they make you pay extra for wax, so I don’t know how expansive their knowledge is (actually, they sponsor e46fanatics and they have no problem answering the “what is the best wax?” question, but only because they’ve convinced themselves that there really is a best choice…ugh).
corey, You can treat lexanmuch the same way you treated the headlights. It is an acrylic compound that is very hard, and prone to faint hazing and scratching vs. gouging. If there are deep gouges, chances are without sanding, you wont get them out. You can however just like a deep scratch in paint, reduce the visibility of the mark by polishing it, and rounding the edges. If you polish them with the cyclo, or the PC it will be ok. Just dont let the plastic heat up too much or it will burn worse than paint. Another trick is to not let your polish dry up on you. That will cause very fine marring and haze (unless you are using a diminishing abrasive)
If i were you, i would get a small piece of lexan from Home Depot, mar it up, and polish it to learn. Then you will feel safer taking on mikes Porsche
Eh, from 10ft it looks great, then you notice all the little nicks, scratches, chips, cracks etc. The car desperatly needs a full repaint in a year or two.
wait untill you see what i have in the works… I will be taking his style car, and GASP (I know the hardcore porsche renlist guys hate it but) stuffing a big ol LS1 or maybe LS6 motor in, upgrading suspension, and wheels, tires etc… Then the interior all in alcantara from the seats to the headliner, and the dash in handstiched leather like the M5. to me it is a dream that hopefully with the new job that should be finalized in a week will get to be a reality. Yay!
Mike, I will detail your car including your lexan for the chance to pick your brain about my next porsche project involving basicly your car. Pm me if you are interested. If you dont know of my work check out www.ddetail.com/gallery most of it is mine, but a decent percentage of it is mine and Coreys. he is a great detailer as most on the board can tell you!
Lets see, this is adams altima… he thought it was crap, and frankly when we started it was bad, but not beyond the point of no return:
Before:
Left half Polished, not even waxed!
Unfortunatly after i took that picture, i polished the rest of the car, and as you can see the sun was fading quickly so we were unable to get pictures of it after it was 100% finished.
