My Skyline Build Thread - Page 7 Hotness

looking good mang

Fuck I gotta get my engine bay looking like that. Damn nice work mate.

EDIT: What is the highmount exhaust manifold your using and where did you pick it up?

Its a full HKS GT special turbo kit (hks manifold). Its t2 flanged, but it allows me to spool really fast, while still having a turbo capable of 500 or so hp. I bought it off yahoo japan. Ive had it for over a year now.

Thanks for the compliments, now its time to get my blitz’s back on (once the bigger ones show up, bahhhh). The enkei’s are on loan from a friend of mine (thanks joe).

Thanks. Looks like I’ll have to look elsewhere. I have a HKS 2535 but want a top mount manifold like yours…

Also if you dont mind me asking what’d you pay for the intake manifold? Im in love with your engine bay…

That intake manifold wont work for rb20, and i cant really say what i paid for it. There are some custom rb20 ones out there though.

Wait? Thats an RB25?

Either way it looks like Greddy Intake Manifold and I thought they where the same between the RB25 and RB20… I could be wrong… It does happen… Is it just the Exhaust Manifold thats the same?

Btw. How far is lethbridge from Edmonton. Love to take a look at your car some day.

Yeah, my car is an rb25 swap, and no the greddy intake manifold wont work on an rb20. The exhaust manifold is the same, but not the intake, basically, rb20 guys are forced to go custom if they dont want to keep the gay stock one.

Thanks for typing that up mate… You just saved yourself a bunch of time with future questions from me.

Im assuming you drove the RB20 that came in your car first? Did you notice alot better power band switching to the RB25? I’m thinking of doing the swap myself before I sink too much coin into the RB20.

Im really looking for a more solid power band. As it stands I’ve got 4000-7500RPM. Dont get me wrong she pulls hard but Id like a little more umphh.

If im not mistaken his rb25 swap was done in japan for him.

ahh shitty… I really want to get someones opinion thats driven both…

Yeah, i had the swap done in Japan (biggest mistake ever), the wiring is a total hackjob, but i have had a lot of seat time in rb20’s as well, and you definately notice a lot more low end torque with the rb25. The main reason i did the swap was because i wanted a newer motor with lower km. My new motor had 25K on it and the body had 65K when i got the car, i got the motor out of a 1996 r33, and now with a newer, lower km motor, i have a lot of peace of mind when it comes to driving the car hard and modding it. I plan on removing the motor for a rebuild this winter though, and everything else done to the car was done here.

All in all, there is nothing wrong with the power an rb20 has, it all depends on what your goals are, and in all fairness, by the time you swap an rb25 in, you might as well just rebuild your rb20 and boost the crap out of that (which is what i think i would do if i did it over, rb24 ftw!!).

does the rb25 just have a longer stroke than the rb20, or is the bore bigger too? i really know nothing about rb’s, i’m trying to learn.

A little of both, the red line is only 7000 rather than 7500 as well. The main advantage to swapping this motor is that you get a substantial amount more low end torque, you get a newer motor with lower km generally, you get a WAY better tranny (rb20 tranny will work too), and the 0.5L just makes things easier to get power out of the motor reliably.

hey can you post some pics of your wheel fitment once you get them… because i just sold my rims and i am trying to find a good fitment for my next set… my last set was 17x9 in the rear with +35 offset and they actually stuck out a little fricken skylines have the weakest wheel fitments
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c267/jvdskyline/IMG_1177.jpg
those are the old rims and thanks in advance

sounds like a more streetable engine than the rb20. a lot of the dsm guys that were making 600hp+ cars were sticking with the stock 2 litre, because they rev to 9000 rpm on built internals, while street-fun guys were building 2.3 strokers with a 2.4 crank, which spools even a GT35R turbo at a low rpm. After all, who’s trying to hit 9000 rpm on street :E

u need those GTR rear quarters then!!! and front fenders…also try some rear camber looks to be your wheel is sitting straight up…

and about the RB20 vs. RB25, RB26…i found the RB20 made nothing for power until 5000
absolutely no torque…with the 25 and 26 it just amazing how much engine there is before u spool the big boi… i mean chris’s 3037 and my TD06-25G…but i do say, u should try the bore and stroke combo for RB25…just kidding chris, car look sweet, cant wait to tandem!!!

Yes Mark, tandem sounds sexy…I would have rocked the tandem with you at the GP, but i dont think im invited… I guess we will have to do it on August 5th…cause there’s no way in hell im missing that… :E

Good Work!

I’m sure these are all just photoshopped hard-parking pics of you sitting in your car with a helmet on. Haha. Car sounded nutty with the limiter and screamer pipe. Car’s low as shit too. Love it!
