Defective tire. It happened to a stake-body F550 I was using a few years ago when I was a home builder’s bitch for a summer. Like 1/3 of the sidewall started to bubble so I decided to take the other truck. I guess like 2 hours later it was just sitting there when a couple of guys at the shop heard a shotgun blast. Tire blew up.
That was a hell of a bubble. You’re lucky you didn’t have a blowout. :tup:

I saw this happen on a friends Mini in the middle of an autocross. Crazy.
The only time i’ve ever seen something like this was a result of a riding lawn mower that exhausted directly onto the tire.
I have seen that happen, basically weak cords break allowing the rubber to expand

ive had two occasions where tires got messed up on my cavalier. The one it had a bulge like that but not that extreme, and the other the cord or something busted and the tread was like a S around the whole tire
Newman had that happen a long time ago. I remember because I loaned him one of my wheels to replace it while he ordered a new one.
