I came out from work last night and I had a flat. Weird, because the tires are only a few months old. So I grab a can of Fix-a-flat to get it filled back up, and then go and get some air in it. Check it a few hours later, and no problems. Still has all the air in it, and no sign of Fix-a-flat leaking from anywere that I can see. So the next morning I check it again - still the same. So I take my girlfriend to the airport, and the whole way, the car feels funny. It’s like the tires out of balance or something - but it still is full. Hmmm… So when I get home, I take a closer look, and notice this on the inside sidewall:
So, since I was planning on going to Syracuse and Romulus this weekend, I wanted to get a new one for tomorrow. The guy at Sears said that it would be $100 to overnight it. WTF??? I told him that I need it, and he asked me if I could just drive on it the way it is. I should put that in the “stupidest things people have ever said” thread.
technically you could drive on it, but it won’t take you very far. I wouldnt trust it to go from looney acres to walmart.
Q?: $100 to overnight it? is that JUST the shipping!!! F-that. Go to some cheapo place for something for the trip, and when you come back, get a matching tire. Or just get a full set from a place that has your size…
they are already el-cheapo tires - Falken Ziex 512’s. The $100 was just for shipping, because it is still under warranty. So I told them to get it, but not overnight. I threw my snow tires on the back for now. Looks ghetto, but it beats $100.
I got snow tires on my TA. It sucks cuz when it rains I get like no traction foing around corners. they spin out soooo easy. I give it more than 1/4 throttle goin around a corner and my ass end kicks out.
That looks pretty nasty… are there 4 separate bubbles? I’ve got a relatively small bubble in one of my tires too thats even a bit scary. Happened on some RR tracks in Beautiful Niagara Falls. Also bent the rim slightly and I’m pretty sure a strut, but thats one’s gone now.
that damage is from the inner halibutyl lining of the tire being ruptured in every one of those bulges
ABSOLUTELY DO NOT DRIVE ON THAT TIRE
usually you see one or two of those happen from slamming a pothole, but thats a shit load of bulges. chances are you had just one initially, but from continuous driving it created more ruptures in the lining
get another tire like yesterday, AND FUCKING SHOOT THE IDIOT WHO TOLD YOU IT WAS OKAY TO DRIVE ON
btw, the out of balance was from the fix a flat not the bulges…that shit never hardens completely and throws any tire out of balance almost immediately…
looks like your tire has a nutsack hangin out the side lol…I don’t understand why they would have tried to make you pay for shipping if it was covered under warranty?
They tried to make me pay for overnight shipping, because I wanted a new one today - before I drive to syracuse tomorrow. They aren’t making me pay for normal ground.
