Mysterious White SR's Hatch

But seriously… WTF IS WITH THIS CAR???

So a customer of mine pulls in the driveway couple days ago with this white hatch. Seemed alright but was making a lot of smoke (turbo leak) and the fans were on constantly. Weird i thought, i offered to help install the headlights he had just bought (since the previous owner cut out the harness), and the bumper I had just sold to him. Simple enough, but after removing the current bumper and “aero” headlights, i had noticed that there were alot of wires cut from the factory engine bay harness (not the engine harness) and they were not taped or even kept from grounding against the frame.

So all these wires are messed around and i let the owner know since it needs to be dealt with. He tells me that he had it taken to a NISSAN specialist shop and that the engine was “fine”, just the turbo dumping oil into the intake and an exhaust leak, but the wiring needed to be dealt with. Ok so atleast he knows.

He leaves after the bumper is installed and the headlights put in place, but not fitted.

He calls me the next day and says the fans aren’t turning on and the car is overheating so bad that coolant is shooting from the “intercooler” ( i think he meant rad lol). I tell him if he needs to he can bring it buy and i’d help wire the fans. Comes buy after a couple of hours and the fans are wired up in a way that would make sense to an Italian mother putting pasta on a plate. WIRES EVERYWHERE LIKE FREAKIN SPEGHETTI. So i tidy them up and set the fan to come on when the temp gauge reaches half way as i’m guessing thats about 180. Works just fine and he’s content with the wiring but tells me that the MAF has f’d up wiring that drops the idle of the car if it is touched. I look at it and NON of the wires have been soldered just wrapped around and taped. Pretty sketchy but I clean them up with actual solder this time.

Car starts and runs fine! So my work is deffinetly not in question here as we started it atleast like 10 times just to make sure the fans came on when they should before i let it back on the street.

Customer is happy and says he’d like me to do a sleepy eye mod on it. Why not right? Not hard at all and can be done pretty quickly.

So we go to the store to get the switches for the sleepy eyes, keep in mind the car was in running condition before i left.

We come back and i go to turn it on.

This is when shit starts getting f’ed up.

NOTHING… THE FUCKIN CAR DIED WITHOUT EVEN BEING TOUCHED IN LESS THAN 20 MINUTES.

I ask neighboors if anybody has been near the car and they all say that nobody has been near it since we left. So we start trouble shooting, checking the battery and simple things. Still nothing. It cranks but doesn’t turn over. I notice that the fuel pump isn’t priming so i check the lines (right after the filter) and they are DRY. While i’m picking around the engine bay i notice a lot of sketchy wiring and just the overall amateurness of the install (its an SR) and work done by the previous owner.

My conclusion to this long ass and drawn out headache…

The Fuel pump relay and the one next to it, i think its the EGI, are not working at all. So for some reason the car is not getting fuel although the actual relays work and there is a signal and power to them. Maybe a bad ground to that fuse box?

So right now you may be thinking shouldn’t this be in technical?

NO… IT’S BEEN 4 DAYS AND I WANT THIS CAR OUTA HERE SINCE ITS BEEN WIRED BY A DAMN FREAKIN RETARD AND IS WAY MORE FUCKED UP THAN I CAN HANDLE.

A buddy from the forum says that this EXACT car was for sale a couple months ago for around 4 g’s but was dropped to 1 or something. Then that owner sold it to my customer saying it was cause she had a baby and needed to get rid of it. Kinda fishy if you ask me since you know about a baby 9 months before hand and she bought the car maybe 4 months ago.

WHO’S CAR IS THIS AND WHY THE FUCK IS IT SO SKETCHY???

I’m trying to keep my customer happy and tracking down the history of the car so he knows.

Wow, sounds like fucked up situation. I unfortunately know nothing about this exact car but yea man good luck with that, I hate when people do shitty work on cars, at least your trying to help the guy out… but I would have refused to work on it from the beginning if i knew it was a hack job swap.

Yeah i deffinetly would’nt have chosen to work on it if i had known. Problem was he didn’t have a clue how bad it was and i didn’t get a chance to look around before working right?

I dunno you can kind of tell just by opening the hood if its a hack swap or not. Anyways I’am sure someone on here knows everything about the car, but will they choose to speak doubtful… Good luck though

if anybody does know, just pm me cause i would like to get it off my damn property!

And thanks alot Polar… the swap wasn’t really the issue more so just the aftermarket mods and installations that were wired in last minute looks like.

what you wrote about the relays doesnt make sence at all. You contradicted yourself there. Did you check to see if the pump itself had power to it? This should be fairly easy to diagnose with the help of a schematic. Sounds like maybe your in over your head?

No no i jumped the relays with some wire and they worked. So i checked voltage over the “switch” half of the relay (the low voltage side that turns the high voltage side on), and that had voltage going to it. The pump worked when jumped and the relay was replaced but still didn’t work.

u said the car doesnt prime yet the relays work. maybe the pump just died. if you jump the fuel pump relay the pump should run

yeah it did but i would have to ground it aswell. Weird I know its hard to explain. Some shop is looking at it now so we’ll see what they think of it.
