Big   to Goff! He was very familiar with the issue and knew exactly what needed to be done.
An update after two weeks of having the car back… walnut blasting took care of my 2500-3500 RPM issue completely. It hasn’t hesitated once, like it used to.
Thankfully, BMW covered my walnut blasting. Since my car had been there 3 other times, went through two sets of leaking injectors and I still had the issue, they took care of it for me. Awfully nice of them.
The car revs perfectly smooth now when I hit boost and feels a lot more responsive, too. No MPG savings though… but with just two weeks, hard to tell.
Sadly, I swear that I still hear the wastegate rattle while I’m in my parking garage. I wish I had luck in getting them addressed, like others have on the forums. The last thing I want is to hit 100k and then they just stop working correctly. :-/ One battle at a time I suppose…
I guess I’ll bring it up when I drop the car off again this Thursday 6/6, for a leaking power steering issue. One thing after another, but I love the car still. Weird.
Despite the trips to the dealership, I would buy another boosted BMW.

So whats the verdict half the people on this forum who have 335i’s have had a bunch of problems yet they still love them?
Yeah, pretty much. The car is a good blend of sport/power/luxury in a daily driver. Pretty well packaged for the price point (lightly used of course) but it’s all the BS issues that drive most people away, otherwise they would probably keep them. Been thinking of putting mine up for sale, just not sure what I would replace it with…

I’ll be putting mine up for sale soon. Unfortunately, trying to find a well balanced replacement for this car seems like an impossible task. The sport/power/luxury blend you speak of is in a class of its own.
Even though I’ve had the common issues, I’m not the least bit thinking of selling my car yet. I may post up that I’m having a similar problem as others, but don’t get me wrong… the car is amazing still. I have 80,000 miles and have yet to pay for even an oil change. If I can’t make it to the dealership, the BMW dealership actually brings me a car at work, takes my car and then brings my car back to me when it’s done. They never act like I’m bothering them, either. They work hard to fix the issue, or if not, they try again until I’m satisfied and not the other way around like at Honda or Mazda.
I bought the car because of it’s luxury/looks/power/handling, but I’m going to buy another one because of the service.
In the 3.5 years I’ve owned my car, the only repairs I’ve had to pay for out of pocket were the brakes and my failed water pump at 75k miles.
Speaking of the water pump, it cost me a whole $50 with my CPO warranty and took less than 1 day for them to get me my car back. I didn’t even have to pay for the rental for the day… they covered it.
As for the brakes, I splurged and got all four corners done. That was the expensive repair, but I went OEM because I just loved the feel of the brakes. Cost me over $1,000.
The only other cost my car has had is tires. This is an expected cost with any auto enthusiast… as I bought a dedicated set of winter wheels/tires and upgraded my summer tires to the best I could get. Happily, my tires have been the most expensive cost to my 335…
I’d recommend a 335 to anyone. All of the issues I’m having are the well documented recall issues, which the dealer has fixed quickly, with little stress/hassle to my life.
Best. Service. Ever.
Love my car.
^I’m curious how you have oil changes and everything else covered. Did you buy it new? What year is it and whats the warrenty like on these things. I know the HPFP and turbos are good til like 120K or 10 years but what about everything else?
Most people buy used with a CPO warranty which is 100k/5yr IRC
It’s a 2008 335XI and I bought it at just over one year old, with a CPO warranty of 100k/2014. It came with 60k maintenance included, meaning everything was paid for (minus tires/brakes) until 60k. When I bought the car, it had 20k miles on it and they replaced the brakes for me. I was at 65k when I needed brakes again.
As for oil changes, they are only required every 15,000 miles on the car. I’ve only had two since 60k, both of which BMW paid for. I’d go to pick the car up/they’d bring it back to me and they just told me, “you’re all set. We covered it, since you had some issues and came back a couple of times.”
When I just bought the car, I had the immediate HPFP issue and had to come back twice for it, since a coil or two were also bad. When I picked up the car, they apologized by giving me a set of all season floor mats.
That answer your question, too?
