N54 Bmw 335i wastegate/turbo rattles....

Yeah seriously, I also noticed my mpg has increased by 2-3 on the thruway.

How many miles were on that one that was cleaned above? Wondering how bad mine actually is after seeing this.

74k on the one in the pics. Should have been done at 50k

Check out the pics in post number 5 on the link below, his car was only at 53k

nice. There’s a shop in cali that does a group buy… $350 with a rental car for the day. Not bad…and I don’t have to do shit haha.

I’m scared to see what mine looks like. Got the burger catch can tho…and getting a new fmic…so hopefully no more sludge

what kinda #'s do u get, just curious. and auto or manual?
my best highway was 27.7 :tif:

depends how i drive, 75 around 29. Manual drop to 65ish get 32

I had mine done at 45k and they were horrible, after I was getting about 31-33mpg hw

Quick little test on the way home from pembroke. Not that bad,was going up until i hit road work.

It’s always off by about 1 mpg when you calculate it. But I miss that efficiency

I think 50,000 miles would be a good interval for the valve cleaning. I just did Clean Baldys this morning and they were pretty bad at almost 80,000 miles. There was a nasty hesitation around 2500 rpms or so and it’s completely gone now.

This was my first time doing it, but I could probably get this down to just over an hour. It requires quite a
bit of media and some scraping with a pick to get spotless.

An hour for just the cleaning, or including disassembly?

X…

Including disassembly. I can get an intake manifold off pretty quick. Pulling the fan helps for turning the motor over to get the valves closed. Now that I know what I need/how to set up the tools it would be an easy service.

Back when we were doing high pressure pumps daily I had those down to like 20 minutes. LOL

intakes are very easy to take off imo, i was expecting a much harder job for the price everyone was charging

shops charge what they charge because they have overhead to pay for. Its great that joe schmoe next door saw a video on youtube and is now offering the service outta his mothers garage for 1/2 the cost but legit shops have to pay employees, insurance, rent, taxes, etc etc etc. unfortunately these costs have to come from somewhere, its a shame that people tend to forget that. I offer the intake valve cleaning with before and after dyno results. however its time consuming at about 3-4 actual hours and i wouldnt do it for less then $450.00.

I get all that, I did mine, and I guess I could take it apart and put it all back together in an hour, but the cleaning took me a decent amount of time.

X…

I understand that completely, but when a shop makes anything over $100 an hour it’s just plain ridiculous

Joe Schmoe? Is that directed towards me? Because if it is that seriously lame as fuck.

To do a specific task like this I’d pay a guy with Goff’s skills $100 an hour at the speed and accuracy he works at. Better than 3 hours at $50 and a return trip to fix whatever he didn’t put back together right.

X…

Do I even knOw who you are? I wasnt directing that towards anyone. It was a generalization. I was trying to make a point. Sorry if it struck a nerve. Wasn’t my intentions at all.

Okay… just i read into it a bit to much. I did the coding on your 530… No problems

u asshole!

:pedo1: oh shit pedo bear ftw!
