If the track is designed so that highly modified cars won’t exceed 110 kph, then my lightly modified sedan probably won’t even break 80 kph :?
Oh well, maybe it’s for the best since I have never driven it anywhere close to its limits yet. Finding the braking zone and turn-in point will be a challenge for me
Any and all tips appreciated! And a helmet to borrow would be great too!
My friend says that the cars aren’t covered by insurance (at the PCA event). The course is designed to prevent off track excursions (high speed sections in the middle of the track and tight slower corners at the edges) and all participants have to sign a waiver. To my knowledge, no-one has ever gone off track. And hey, don’t be down on this whole speed/insurance thing. Having looked at your course layout, it’s clearly better than the Solo2 club’s ‘Ultra Pilon Fantasia’ course IMO and I know everyone will have fun. And if you guys email me with a good month’s notice next time, I’m sure I’ll be going (I have to book time off work for Saturday events). Heck, I’ll even come help you guys set up if you like.
Aww crap! Found a text message on my phone when I woke up. The temperature in the server room at work went over the warning threshold last night. At least I didn’t get any messages about servers going down. I am going there now to make sure the AC is working properly. Hopefully it won’t take long . . .
Actually, that would be a good laugh, especially for them RWD folks. Don’t do it on an ice course though. Cold weather + hard packed snow = cracked plastic.
Yes, it was an extremely successful event!!! Was such a good time.
Just want to thank everyone that came out and supported us. Thanks to those that had to stand out in the back forty and marshal when they weren’t driving. And thanks to everyone that helped organize it, and thanks to Dave M and his Uncle Bob for stickin around til the very end helping us clean up!! And if there is anyone else we forgot to thanks… THANKS!!!
We’ll be looking into hosting another event sometime this season, but we’ll see how full Namao is booked.
Yeah today was an awesome event, you couldn’t have asked for nicer weather, the track was a lot faster than a traditional AutoX and I love the fact that NECC actually has an accurate timing clock. I really hope that we are able to have another event in September, and that more people come out! Maybe a Sunday would yeild more people? I dunno just a thought. But yeah I had a great time today, I’d rather do this kind of event every weekend then 1/4mile draging, but hey that’s just me. Awesome job today guys.
Yeah the event kicked ass. It was a lot of fun, and it was cool to see the improvement in everyones drving over the course of the day. Hopefully we can squeeze another one in before the year is up.
Congrats to everyone involved! Unfortunately, the AC in our server room at work got an air pocket in the water line overnight. Building Management was already purging it by the time I got there, but some the fans in some of the servers broke down cuz they were running full blast for hours.
Glad everyone had a good time, where are the pics? LOL
I had a fantastic time babying the GTR around the track (my excuse is that I did not want to break it. Reality is bad driver = slow times). Saturday was the first day I have ever did any driving like that in any car so it was a real treat.
I was a perfect day! Thanks NECC Organizers for all the work you did…you guys really do a lot for all of us members and it is appreciated.
Thanks Dave you know there’s nothing quite like a nice hot lap day and a good ol’ Hallelujah from Pras, the one and only, Ghetto Supastar! Too bad for all of those who could enjoy our blessed day. :finga:
I think there are a lot of cars that could beat (and did beat) a GTR on that track layout. I know that this will sound like an excuse but I think the lighter more nimble cars on that particular track had an advantage over the GTR.
As you know the car is quite heavy compared to a 240 and such. So the advantage of the power on a tight track is negated to a point by the weight. Also running stock suspension doesn’t help on a heavy car. There really were only two places on the track where I felt that I actually could feel the power really on and when I did there were a lot of traction issues with the less than sticky street tires even with the AWD. I fishtailed regularly when I got too agressive with the right pedal. I could get the power on in the more open section on the back 40 and of course right at the end where I would then promptly overshoot the stop box.
I had a 240 coupe for something like 10 years and I think I could have posted a pretty decent time with that car compared to what the GTR felt like. The 240 was stock so would have been slow with tons of body roll but it is just so much lighter so I think (not sure) that it would have done well especially with the tight slalom on the front section. It would have neen nice to see other GTRs out to get a comparison or to have driven a GTR and a 240 to compare. I think the GTR is more suited to a more open “road course” but a certain degree of this is set up and bruised ego.
I also have a lot to learn about driving. My uncle and I shot a lot of video and will be putting together a driving clip so there should be some analysis from this and lessons learned.
I need to have shorter posts and faster track times.
