Need a Pic Of 'REAR' of '97 LT1 Engine

I’m trying to figure something out and need a pic of the rear (without flexplate/flywheel installed) view of the LT1 engine. My friend’s camaro had a horrible noise coming from tre flexplate are of his car ONLY when he would really get on the gas.
Ends up that when I crawled under the car, the inspection cover was dented/dinged all to hell, like something was trying to come out. After removing the inspection cover, I found a bolt. The bolt was banging around in the bellhousing area. This bolt is pretty small in size so I cant figure out where the EFF it came from. Its definatly not a flex to TC bolt, its definatly not a flex to crank bolt, and its not a pump assem. bolt either. The bolt is actually VERY similiar to a oil pan bolt.
The car only has 45k mi. on it. Its a 1997 Chevy Camaro Annv. Edition…so the prev. owner kept it mint and my buddy babys the car (pussy lol)
I was thinking it was from the factory since all the oil pan bolts are accounted for in fact they dont even look like they have ever been touched. BUT, if it came from the factory with that bolt dropped in there…wonder how it never got sucked into the wind from the TC/flex and banged around ever before UNLESS the prev. owner babied it THAT much.
I dunno…so could I get a pic of the rear of the engine…and maybe some input on wtf this bolt could be from. Its such a odd situation. There’s really no opening big enough for a bolt to get in there. Also, like I said, the bolt is EXACTLY the size of one of the oil pan bolts.

Thanks!

Time for a LS1 swap!

HA! I wish. He’s one of those ~lame~ car guys. Content with the car, the way it is. Doesnt enjoy breaking it, repairing it, repeat…lol

seriously though, he’d never mod it past what it has…FWI, cat. back, PCM tune, 180 tstat. If I had to guess, its a high to mid 13sec car (leaning on high 13s) He did however beat a stock LS1 GTO…till 80mph.

Don’t have a picture, but you could post on CZ28.com or have your buddy do it; they maybe able to help.

I do have my block in the basement if you guys are ever down in Cheektowaga and want to take a look at it.

Bolt that holds the rear main seal plate on? I don’t know how LT1’s work.

If I remember correctly the bolts that hold the rear mail seal…are studs…but, I was thinking it was the only thing considerable to have that small of bolts in that location.

1 stud and 3 bolts hold the rear main seal adapter on. The bolts are M10 head, M8x1.25 thread

hmmm, is that similiar to the oil pan bolts? Im thinkin it is…

Yeah generally SBC oil pan bolts are 1/4" and the ends are 5/16", so yes it is similar, post a picture of the bolt

OK! I found a pic of the rar seal plate with the bolts installed…it IS infact one of those bolts. I might just leave it out…its not leaking. What do u Fbody guys think? Tear into sepr. the trans/engine and all the other bs to re-install one bolt even though its not leaking or let it go???

I would probably keep a very close eye on it

I would let it go, and keep an eye on it for now; if it starts leaking; then it’s time to spend an afternoon and drop the tranny. I can put a new clutch in my car in about 3 hours.

OK, yeah thats what I figured, and its what I told him. I told him it would be a few hours of work just for one bolt, and I wanted $50 or so to do it (real close friend) lol. But, told him the other bolts will hold it. We’ll change it when it gets worse or I get him talked into a stall converter.
