4t63e hd’s are garbage…
ive had them in 3 of my cars. and at 70k they allll start to go down hill
yeah i was surprised when he said at 80K its on its way out
teehee i’m going to start tearing down my spare here shortly. if he might wanna try DIY i could lead you in that direction
also if he’s interested in just doing a good box job i can pm you the man to get it from
edit - 80k is not uncommon especially if it’s beat. i’ve got 90k+ on mine now and it’s starting to not wanna hold first sometimes. find out his symptoms and i’ll let you know if it’s possibly an easy fix
mine with the first thing is valve body i believe. im replacing it in a few weeks.
I run Dex VI in mine- supposed to help them last alot longer.
From what I understand, the things that really kill these transmissions are burnouts, nailing it around corners, and “skip shifts” (3-1 or 4-2 downshifts)- basically, all of the stuff that’s fun.
Like was already mentioned, did he try any troubleshooting before assuming it’s toast? A good fluid and filter change can make a world of different sometimes- that, and upgrading to Dex VI could possibly even fix his issues.
As far as local transmission shops, I can’t say enough good things about Transmissions by Lucille in Penn Hills- they built the AODE in my old Mustang for a fair price and it was a top notch unit (9.5" 3000 RPM stall from Edge, kevlar bands, hardened internals, etc). They also diagnosed a few easy fixes on other prior cars I owned and never overcharged me.
valve body. flushing mine with new dex VI fixed it for 3 days
Good luck with the one in your Impala. LOL
LOL!
yeah i run dex VI in mine too but with a shift kit and significant pressure raises. you have to remember, if your clutches are worn and starting to slip dexron VI will not help the problem. it’s a synthetic fluid and it’s more slippery than regular III. overall it’s much better for the seals and bearings but your frictions may not like it
put a getrag 5 speed in it, autos are for pussys
so are getrags in a fwd gm
hey, a 5 spped is better than an auto, but fwd cars are :greddy: regardless.
Wrong, S10 5 spped 4 banger is worse then a auto
who the fuck are you?
He rocks a really sweet 99 S10 4-cylinder man!
Seriously Gibson, we were trying to actually help someone in this thread? Take your shit talking somewhere else (like the forum that’s actually devoted to it, “Off-Topic”?).
lol. lowered s10’s look like roller skates…
