ok so i was driving my dad winter beater today its a 80’s LTD wagon with a fuel injected 5.0 and i was sitting at the light idleing and it just died… it was low on fuel so i figured maybe it ran out… so i went and got my dolly and braught it home and fueled it up still wouldnt start but you can hear the fuel pump kicking on so i was wondering if anyone knows what it may be … some things to check out when i look at it tomorrow morning
thanks, bob
do you have spark?
Are you sure fuel is getting to the fuel rail?
Your pump may kick on but ti might be shot… running out of gas = the bad for pumps that are in the tank… it heats them up and kills em… they may sound like they are running but may not…
See if anyone has a fuel rail pressure tester so they can see if you are indeed getting pressure to the rail (Or rent one from auto-zone)
Check your plugs / wires / coil to see if there is spark.
you might of clogged up the fuel filter… try swapping that out first  are you getting any fuel pressure @ the rails?
The best way to check to see if your pump is bad is by disconnecting the fuel line off the fuel filter and point into a can or bottle and turn the key to the on position. If fuel shoots out your pump is fine.
