you could always buy property in canada and register it there… just a thought
This doesnt seeam legit…
doesnt seem very official, its written like a personal letter isntead of an official gov. letter demanding you turn over your car
Just because they have it doesnt mean it needs to be turned in… it just cant be driven on teh street… you can buy a skyline and ship it here for use as a race car etc etc…
can you buy one and drive it with a dealer plate?
yes it does need to be turned in. re-read. the issue is that it was illegally imported.
no, that letter reads 2 differant ways, which makes me think its fake…
The writing style is WAY off for a attorney… nobody writes like that, i would never take a letter from a lawyer seriously if it was written like that…
that being said… the letter says that the vehicle is not legal, and CANT be operated on public highways… which is true… BUT the vehicle is not ILLEGAL to have in the united states… just illegal to drive on public roads…
all he has to do is prove he ISNT driving the car on public roads… and he wont have to turn the vehicle in…
a real lawyer would know to make this distinction in how the letter was written…
what is the source?
Thats not how it works…You can’t import a car for “off road use”.
sure you can its just like any other property… the differance is you cant register it…

i looked into it for a bit for a track toy a LONG time ago…
Since this thread is still going. Kustom workz has a skyline here legally correct? Say they want to sell it. Could anyone register it without a problem?
answer is yes
because his fell in the period of being allowable and its grandfathered in
Maybe Viper could lend his legal expertise to this guy.
Whole bunch of info here:
 Viper save him!
Well then, all the research you did was incorrect. You should probably spend some time reading theses websites:
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/CARS/RULES/IMPORT/
Among others, you know, ones with federal law on them, rather than ones from jadecrew
Went through this process with two BMW’s before, one going to Canada and trying to bring one to the USA. It’s not as simple as “Oh hey, it wont be on a public highway” and for a car to come in as a race car, it already has to be one with a legitimate racing or competition background. Also, Skyline’s are not eligible for Show and Display so don’t try and go there.
If your name is:
baseball24, celicagts, cobraman04, halas, JMEZZI, Just Karter, LittleMan1235, NeOn9787, Red00WS6, sobo, zklug1013
You are either a moron or just ignorant to the law. OMG SKYLINE!11!!
you can register it as a kit car, at least thats what my research brought up its just not federally legal. state legal though. but if the feds find out its not to the crusher it goes
Really? Because clearly you don’t know jack shit about Kit Car eligibility either.
Just buy a totaled Viper.
Just buy a house in Canada, register as a citizen, ???, profit.
Maybe if you swap a SHO motor in the skyline it will be ok?
A friend of mine imported a car from Canada (before most of you were born) and he just got a “one time waiver” from NY. It is probably safe to assume they don’t do this anymore.(?)lol
I read on theonion.com that if you get a PO box in Canada you can register it in your village as a storefront display and drive it to promotional events as long as you promise not to enjoy it.
if it was on the onion then it has to be true…
