I have a small network here at my office. Nothing crazy, 8 comps, a small server, and a 10 port router. Anyways, we have an asshole in the office who is constantly on ebay, selling shit and everything on company time. He refuses to answer the phones or do any of the work he’s required to do in the morning until he gets his ebay’ing done.
I’m tired of it. I need a way to block the webpage so that he can’t get on anything.
I really hate this mother fucker, and the worse I can make his day, the better.
with a netgear i would think that the only thing you could is disable port 80 (which is for www access) but i think that would affect all users
if you had a firewall this would be alot easier
here is a really simple idea though
just edit his hosts file to redirect ebay.com to goto some other site or even better redirect it to a web page that says “NO EBAY FOR YOU!!!”
yeah cause it would really take him long to figure that out since of course you get an error saying its a restricted site… hosts file will take him a while to figure it out
He needs to use UPS to ship things out to customers… so he has to have some sort of web access… although, that does it thru its own program, not thru IE or netscape, so in theory would i be able to block all websites and still allow programs to connect to the web?
