Originally he was charged with 2 counts of manslaughter in the 2nd degree, but the DA agree to drop those charges after speaking with the family of the two kids that died.
More than likely his lawyer suggested to take the plea for a light sentencing recommendation from the DA.
Notice there is nothing about “intent” in that definition. It was going to come down to the DA putting up a bunch of pictures of the crash, testimony about people going 120+ on Transit, and asking the jury the question:
“Had Mejak decided not to race, would this crash have still happened?”
I wouldn’t want to bet my future on putting that question in front of a jury.
Neither would I. The general population of this country is a joke. I have totally lost faith in mankind for the most part.
On a side note: I do more nitrous runs in my C5 by myself not racing anyone, then racing someone. If someone where to run me at a light though I am more then game. If I was to race my vette into a wall while driving by myself, should my family sue the state for putting up a barrier on the highway?
No wait, they should sue the nitrous company for producing a system which would allow a car to smoke tires at 120+.
Well in that case, they should sue the tire company for not making a more sticky tire so I wouldn’t have lost control.
Well maybe they could sue GM for making a car that can go that fast.
Sue New Era for helping me build the beast?
Sue the guy that built the car on the assembly line? If he didn’t build it I wouldn’t have died. That is a fact.
Sue my dad for boning my mom, making me, whom bought a fast car and crashed it cause mental anguish to the rest of my family?
Should my family sue themselves for having feelings? If they didn’t have feelings they wouldn’t care, I guess they are to blame for it all.
Get a grip people.
Nope I don’t. That is why I engross myself around people and friends which I love and care for. This is why I don’t want my kids to grow up in the east side of buffalo or in some other slum.
Actually you are 100% correct. I would really stop. I would stop for anyone. I stop and help people fix their cars on the side of the road who I have never meet before. But I don’t have to.
I love doing a nitrous pull in my car all buy myself, or next to a viper or Modena, if I die should I blame them for intimidating me with their fancy cars?
At the end of the day, it is your car, your choice, Natty ice doesn’t force you to dink and drive.
If I see a fggt on top of a building and tell him society would be better off with out you, jump and give someone a job to due and he jumps so be it. Not my fault he was a crazy bastard.
if I decide to race on the street and lose control and crash and die it is MY fault and no one elses i made that decision to race not someone else, this kid shouldnt be held responsible for someone elses choice.
Judge Thomas P. Franczyk he is considering a sentence ranging from six months of local jail time and five years of probation to a state prison term of up to four years for the deaths of Mark Harhigh, 24, and Melanie Page, 21.
Seems right to me… some time could do this kid some good and set an example for all the other kiddies out there
depending on the judge and lawyers involved he might be able to get it knocked down to a class A misdemeanor which carries a max sentence of 1 yr in county
It’s not about making sure he gets sued. It’s about punishing him for being such a piece of shit citizen of the US. If he does this and gets away with it, people will continue to think it isn’t their responsibility as not only a US citizen/resident, but as a compassionate HUMAN BEING to stop and help someone in need. ESPECIALLY when they were INVOLVED.
