NeveR vs. Ajax Nissan

ty you embarass me

Come on Dude that’s the golden rule, dealerships are good to buy cars but never, EVER take a car to a dealership for general repairs.

Dude I work in a dealership and I don’t even get my own repairs done there.
I order the parts through the dealership because I get the parts for cheap that way, and I use their hoist and do the own repairs my self or if it’s something I don’t know how to do or Im not sure of or I don’t have time I then take the car to my own mechanic at Nizztex and have them repair it there.

A dealership makes a killing on parts and you pay top dollar labour and they charge labour by the book.

What I mean by the book is there is a set amount of time to do a certain type of repair, but it never really takes the mechanic that long to do it, the book might say 2 hours but in reality it only takes 45 minutes to an hour, but you still get charged the full 2 hours.

Example: Audi charges 8 hours! Yes 8 Hours! labour for a timing belt and water pump on a Audi A4 1.8T quattro in reality it only takes a professional audi mechanic no more then 3 1/2 hours.

A profitable mechanic for a dealership works for 8 hours a day but does more then 16 hours of book labour according to book time.

8 hours per day for mechanic = 8 x $25.00 per hour (average mechanic) = $200.00 per day
16 Book hours per day from mechanic = 16 X $75.00 per hour (average shop rate) = $1200.00 per day
$1200.00 - $200.00 = $1000.00 profit for shop

It’s hard to find a shop that doesn’t do everything according to the book and they charge you a resonable price I only know 2 one is Nizztex and the other is Graf auto center.

It’s been said before and I’ll say it again; Mechanics are crooks.

No matter if you have friends that work there.

Everyone is greedy and if there’s one small opportunity to take advantage
of an ususpecting customer, a mechanic will.

Speak for yourself.

My mechanic has helped me out on more than one occassion. Just because you go to Active Green and Ross and Midas and shit, doesnt mean the rest of us chumps like to take it over a barrel.

It was a desperate attempt merely cuz I don’t have a ‘personal mechanic’
Not like I need one because I can do it myself. :dunno:

Plus Active didn’t find anything so I paid $0.

=D>

i lean more to G’s side, but i have had good experiences with mechanics as well.

there are a few problems with mechanics

firstly, just because you have a Class ‘A’ doesnt mean you know anything. it just means you did ur apprenticeship and went to college.

Chris is a great example, he doesnt have a Class ‘A’ license but when he was working at Canadian Tire he was the best tech there, and he was working the parts counter.

Mechanics can follow a book and manipulate a wrench the way things are supposed to be done but the thought process just isnt always there.

when real complicated problems come up the ‘book’ just isnt going to help. you need someone who understands how and ‘why’ cars do what they do.

one of hte biggest problems is that mechanics usually get very basic jobs.

they may do brakes, starters, alternators, mounting a balancing tires, etc… all the basics because those jobs are in and out, they are more profitable than the bigger jobs.

but when the really big jobs come along its time to talk to someone who has done it a hundred times before. that is usually not a mechanic.

my “mechanic” is the shit! he’s my dad’s jeep guy, he’s from England and apparently owned a Cefiro, guy was so stoked wheni brought it into the shop.

I just usualy give him $50 for the day to use his hoist and tools. Great guy.

Welcome to the product of the “new way of doing things”

Mechanics didn’t use to make very good money. It was a low paying blue collar job. This is why a lot of them went crooked, making shit up and charging for it etc.

Then mechanics became untrustworthy, so dealerships cashed in on it with the whole “We do everything by the book, so there’s no way we can screw you”

Back in the day, people knew better, they just somehow forgot that dealerships are crooks.

But like was mentioned before, book rates have nothing to do with time. Factored into the book costs are things like, paying the mechanic for his skills (ie having gone to school).

So the “book” rates are highly inflated.

Something that takes 15 minutes might have a book rate of up to 3 hours.

You only need a class A mechanic to do brakes and … I think A/C?

That’s how C/T gets away with a flock of teenagers ruining cars. They have one class A dude who walks around and signs off on things, and that’s it.

The bigger problem is that these kids have no understanding of mechanics. They are only taught to RE and RE. Car comes in with broken part, you replace it. No diagnostic, no finding out why it failed, just change what’s broken, charge accordingly.

This is why you will hear time and time again people complaining about “I have to keep going back to the mechanic for X problem.”

Without bothering to find out why the piece failed in the first place, odds are high it will break again.

And for everyone trying to make Never feel bad about going to a mechanic and waffling on about how you’re all superior mechanics …

You don’t even need to replace the master in the first place. It’s called buy the $10 rebuild kit, undo the master, pop off the cap, withdraw the spring and seals, replace and you’re done.

If you fall down twice, get brake fluid in your eyes and somehow fall ass backwards into the engine compartment, it’ll still only take like 10 minutes tops.

Stick to the mom and pop repair shops, they’re not hard to find, you just won’t find them on the internet.

It’s always good to have them around. Somethimes they’ll have tools you don’t (like a press for suspension/steering components) and odds are won’t charge you a cent if you come in and ask for a small favor.

I was gonna buy the rebuild kit but the old master cylinder was a little rusty and what not.

Anyway, more problems have arisen with my brakes.

fuck.

Step 1 : Download Factory Service Manual
Step 2 : Go to garage and find tools need, or buy tools needed every car owner should have tools
Step 3 : Follow FSM instructions
Step 4 : Enjoy

PS if you need new front brakes I got my S14 ABS Calipers for sale…

THATS WHY SHOPS EXIST< SO WHEN YOUR FAKKING LAZY ASS you dont have to crawl in under the car and get dirty although you know how to do it, im not planning to fix my car myself for the rest of my life although i know how to, thats why shops exist and we pay, and when they pull that kidna shit you just wanna murder every faking single retard there, but then again, they probably are just busy. but still i wouldnt want to work on my car -10 outside and hands ass freezing to bolts

All I know is that I work at Volkswagen and the door rate is $95/Hr if you brought me a 1902 Jetta all “modded-up” and brought your own parts like I’m incapable of locating a well priced aftermarket replacment, I’d be pissed and I would play dumb and break your balls. No offence to any one but older cars are better off going to private garages, like your dad’s buddy’s garage with the Penthouse mags in the waiting room.

My 2 cents
