New job + move (bragfest?)

The hydrogen economy is a long way off.
Where is this new hydrogen will save the world thread?

I just didn’t know, I don’t care either way lol.

Congrats on the new job!! The Dream Cruise was really good, haven’t been there in 4 years now I think. Where in Detroit are you thinking about moving to? My brother in-law is in Sterling Heights works in Troy. Have family in a few other towns too if you need anything.

Thanks for the tips, Ron. Do you work downtown? My partner’s family used to own and run Chung’s restaurant (closed awhile ago). I think there’s still a location in the suburbs somewhere.

I think I’ll live near Royal Oak initially and then decide later where to move to more permanently (perhaps even home ownership is in my future).

Thanks, Josh! I’ve actually never experienced the Woodward Dream Cruise, so it should be fun. Pontiac seems wonderfully sketchy (honestly).

I was actually in a PhD program before, but after my first advisor threatened to leave the university for a year and my second one decided to leave, I decided to get out with a M.S. At least I got a publication out of it, which is more than can be said for some people that stuck with my original advisor (meh!). Maybe it’s in my future, but we’ll see. Haha and I’m happily NOT with a PhD. I think I’d go nuts obsessing over twice as many details…

Welcome to MI! I have lived in MI for almost a decade now and have lived in Royal Oak since 2008.

The Royal Oak is a great area to live if you like to be out and about. There are always things going on in downtown Royal Oak, the Woodward Corridor, and downtown Ferndale. There are tons of festivals with the Dreamcruise and Arts Beats and Eats being the biggest of the events.

If you are heavily into the car scene, you will find it plenty fulfilling. Everyone knows about the Dream Cruise, but Woodward Ave has plenty of awesome cars pretty much every Friday and Saturday. There also also many other large events in the area both organized and informal. I’m a big cars & coffee guy and there is a weekly gathering at Auto Zone (not the parts store) on Woodward and a big monthly one at Kart2Kart There are a few local car-forums that have plenty of activity www.xceedspeed.com (more import-friendly and www.motownmuscle.com (for domestic guys). I have been on both of those forums for years.

So anyways, congrats on the move! And although Detroit gets a bad rep, it’s not as bad as most people like to say it is (And I work in the law enforcement field IN Detroit.) But there are plenty of top-notch communities all around to live in.

Congrats

Yeah I work in the Ren Cen. I lived in RO for a couple years and decided the extra cost outweighed my utility (I don’t hit the bars, coffeee shops, etcs too often). But it is a great place to be with lots going on.
