So I had my tranny swap done back in the summer and the car has been driving like shit since then.
It took the place i brought it to 3-4 months to do (When I was told it would initially take 1-2 weeks max) and I’ve been going back once every few weeks to have shit fixed and replaced … paying more $ for shit that shouldve been done right the first time and buying parts that i wasn’t told that I would need up front… like a 175 dollar speed sensor from nissan and a leaky slave cylinder. It was supposed to be a “mint” tranny and clutch but it was far from that. I had to buy a new clutch cuz the one that came with the tranny was crap.
The car never drove right since it was converted to manual but i stuck with it and just hoped shit would “fix itself on its own” … with cars that doesnt happen. Tuesday morning the car just got so fucking loud that it was unbearable. I had the music pumped to drown out my sorrow but even that wasn’t enough.
So after months of not being happy with my car… loud whirring tranny, vibrations, not going in to gear, clutch pedal sticking… i said fuggit. I’m just gonna have to bite the bullet with this one and redo it.
Since me n sasha have ses every once in a while I figure i’d go to him to remedy my sorrows. I sourced a proper s14 tranny that i knew hadn’t been beaten to shit, picked up a new TOB from nissan and was on my way to sequence garage. I decided to do this on tuesday and wednesday i was in at sg ready to go. That is speedy service.
As always, I was welcomed in with open arms and the work on mrskny s14 was underway. The tranny was out within 30 minutes and the guys there knew exactly what they were doing. Actually, I woudlnt give the Sg boys all the credit since there’s a lil more to it. The reason why the tranny came out so easily was cuz the guy who did my swap was looking out for the guy who was going to have to fix it. Half the bolts were loose, some were missing. The driveshaft wasn’t even bolted down properlyand the incorrect nuts and bolts were forced in to the wrong holes.
(no wonder my car was vibrating like a gas powered dildo)…

Now the fun begins.
The tranny swap was completed and the boys were doing a final check to make sure shit was good. We start the engine and engage the clutch… sparks and loud bangings started eminating from the tranny. no good. car off. back to square one.
We ran in to a road block but nothing stood in the way of sasha and his red bull…

SO, it’s 10pm the tranny swap is complete but not working. Everyone’s had a full day of work and had tranny swap for dinner… Any other shop would’ve told me to just leave the car over night and we’ll figure it out in the morning. NOT SG!
We thought the tob might be the problem but werent’t 100% sure. Unknowingly the boys at sequence garage went in head first for another tranny swap.
50 minutes and 4 sets of hands later, the tranny is out of the car again.(this time took longer than the first since ALL of the bolts had to be removed)
We came to the conclusion that since we decided not to use the brand new tob i got from nissan since it was an s14 tranny going in to an s14 that that might be where the problem was. We pulled the tob from the pos s13 one and set it beside the s14 one i had bought. The diameters are different. Even though the clutches are the same s13-s14, the throw out bearing just wasn’t compatible with the clutch i had.
The right penis needs to go in to the proper vagine or you run in to all sorts of problems. ( I know youre hoping for an image to go with this analogy but I want to keep this thread ws)
TOBs are swapped and the tranny is goin back in to the car. 30 minutes later… WE’RE in business.
I dunno about you guys, but in my book 1 hour and 20 minutes is hella fast for doing a tranny swap (for the second time in a row).
I can honestly say that for as long as Ive owned my car. The drive home from sequence garage was the first time i really got to enjoy my s14 (at first it was auto then the hack job tranny swap… sigh).
sg hooked up rr big time. In return… rr has sent sg some serious RB business. Look out for some crazy one off fabs come spring. The 3rd RR car will not disappoint.
