New to 240's, need some advice.

Hey,

I recently took over my bro’s 240 because his insurance prices started to rise once he bought this car :? Anyway, any input on the problem i’m having would be greatly appreciated.

Here’s the problem: I am hearing a clinking noise at different points in the rpm range and it seems to go away when i press the clutch in. I also experience what seems like a power loss usually close to the 3500 rpm range for a second or two.

I was told that it could be a badly worn clutch disc that chipped and the pieces are bouncing around in the tranny. The persons explanation for the power loss was that the clutch is slipping…however the rpm’s remain constant when the power loss happens.

Today, I was letting the car idle in the driveway and the clinking noise started again…i had a look under the car and it seems like the noise might be coming from the catalytic converter. But the power loss still doesn’t make sense to me.

Any ideas or advice would be awesome because I have no clue anymore.

The car is a '92 240sx KA24DE.

Here’s an update guys/gals…

The clinking noise i was getting was a broken exhaust hanger…

The power loss which is now severe, I think its only running on couple cylinders.
I was about to change the plug today and when i took the old ones out, three of the plugs have oil on them…so i guess that means the piston rings are cooked?

Are there any quick, temporary fixes i can do? or is the only option doing the rings?

Any ideas at all would be great.

Thanks

Adam
