Newman's 1986 BMW 326rb build thread.

its crazy the amount of time and money you must have into this car

Approaching 40 grand probably.

…and to think that it all started from this (car on the left)

lol.

have any more pics?

Maybe a few not online, I’ll have to check when I get home.

As an interesting (? probably not) aside, I ended up buying the red E30 in these photos a few years (and 1 or 2 owners) after they were taken. It kicked ass, until the engine started knocking really bad and I parted it out.

Is the new DTM hood going to open the same?

Yeah. I wish it didn’t. In the future I will probably convert it.

I can’t wait to see the braking performance on this thing.

Amazing progress…

i think it’d be pretty awesome if you could print a model of the whole drivetrain.

Why is that? What about four hood pins, or would that be more trouble then its worth?

you should print a full model of the car!

I can actually get away with 2 hood pins and having it lift off, but I think for the time being I’m just going to use the OEM hinge assy

The hood should open to the passanger side…j/k

is that the one the drift king badge came off of?

Brian

lol, yes. There was an incident with a panel van, a miss shift and a Detroit guard rail about 20 minutes after picking the car up that led to that.

yeah i heard about that when i was at brents and noticed the badge sitting there atop a pile of car parts. before he moved of course.

 that poor (red) E30 lived a tough life. Like the time it drove from Detroit to Rochester and a few weeks of daily driving with NO gear oil at all in the trans.

Did good burnouts though.

That’s funny, I recall driving it from Detroit to Rochester with no gear oil once myself.

 I didn’t do a repeat performance, I was just talking about that first time.

That no gear oil transmission lasted a LONG time for the abuse it took. Sucked trying to slide it without 2nd gear though.
