BMW GT-R FTW
Def gonna have the bimmer roundels w/ a GTR badge. Love the rice.
thank you for making it big enough so that we can steal it and send it to china!
Hahaha. I love it.
Host it on some chinese sites.
Well, that’s the schematic for the whole car… not just the kwikwire harness.
Gonna try my hand at tig welding up this Coolant expansion/overflow tank combo either today or tomorrow. I think I am going to pin the bottom of the tanks together and just rely on the fitting to hold the overflow to the expansion tank, so I can just remove the JIC fitting and the overflow tank will remove for draining. The expansion tank will be mounted to the fender.
Why do you have an over flow? expansion tank alone should be more then enough.
Because the expansion tank has the radiator cap on it, if it pushes coolant for some reason it’s gotta go somewhere…
ahh, didnt know you were using an pressure style cap. All my bmws just have the expansion tank with plastic style twist on cap. Most of the time its one or the other ya know? expansion tank, or radiator cap on the radiator with an overflow.
There has to be a pressure relief in the system somewhere.
meh, not realy. It shouldnt exceed a certain amount of pressure in the first place. And if a vehicle were to overheat worst case scenario would be to have the coolant overflow out of the system to create more heat. Thats why alot of cars expansion tanks explode/crack with excessive overheating from faulty cooling systems. The goal is to keep the coolant in the system regardless of pressure. Atleast thats how i look at it. However my plastic cap does have holes in it and orings and stuff so im assuming there is some sort of pressure relief built in that sense.
there’s 2 seals, and 2 valves in that black plastic cap, to allow excess (blow off) pressure out, and to allow the system to not collapse when the coolant contracts as it cools. it’s not just a cap and yes a coolant system needs all of the above to function correctly.
So I finished my expansion tank and overflow tank. Slight departure from my original plan but I think it came out pretty good for my first thing I ever tried fabricating with TIG.
Then I installed it:
Did you pressure test it to make sure it’ll be O.K? Looks pretty good for a first time.
christian i know you already said yours are smileys, which are euro only
just wanted to toss in that not all euro projectors are smileys. some are not smiley, but the difference is they have city lights (which US doesn’t get)
newman u sexy beast i give u props
this build continues to deliver!
So, I gotta make a throttle cable.
They sell universal cables, but I’m not super keen on the looks, so what I bought was a -3 stainless braided teflon lined brake line. I’m gonna use a bike brake cable inner, and bulkhead fittings to attach it to the car, it’s gonna be hot.
