Newman's 1986 BMW 326rb build thread.

Just bled all 4 corners in 15 minutes with a homemade pressure bleeder. Worked AWESOME!

It’s like a beer funnel for your whip y0!

Great build! I started reading at the beginning and am on page 84 right now.

You didn’t post something about a front clip on hybridZ, did you?

Thanks!

Do you have diodes across the relays that are driven directly by the AEM?

I wonder if the reverse EMF is causing the AEM to lock up, hence the internal drivers staying on when they should be off.

Try adding a diode across the coil of each relay. The cathode (stripe) should go to +12V side of the coil, the anode to the other side of the coil.

See what happens then.

Dan

I don’t know what problems he’s having, but I’d be pretty surprised if it was that, unless AEM’s have very sensitive drivers. The back emf from a relay turning off should be pretty small, unless you’re trying to pwm them, which is a bad idea to begin with.

IT sounds like the two relays controlled by the AEM are sticking on, sometimes, when the ignition turns off. It bench tests ok though, just measuring the active low outputs with a meter.

Normally I would agree with you, but in this case itd be easy enough to try the diode and see if the issue goes away.

There is also the possibility that his laptop was borking things up, but Im not sure how much trouble a serial port could cause.

Dan

You’re right, diodes couldn’t hurt and they’re cheap and easy to try. It just seems weird that that would cause problems.

Also, Newman, where did you order the supplies for your wiring harness?

i had to do a similar thing with my emanage blue on my spec v. it would just burn out coils with out the diodes but sounds like the same situation

Still fucking with the aem, but on a positive note: flares look sweet!

The fender color is a little off, but I’ll take care of that in the future…

I know you have been busy… but do you happen to have my money yet?

Was just gonna ask about the fender. Looking good almost done haha

Yeah I have it.

starting to look like a car

is it just me, or does the front of the motor stick up too high to clear a non cowl hood?

Its looking good! I wouldnt worry too much about the fender color unless it really stands out in the sunlight.

Either way this thing looks like its going to be insanely fun.

the hood fits fine with about an inch of clearance, but it does look that way…

Looks great…

the one thing i would change would probably be to paint the flares the body color. still looks great though
