Newman's 1986 BMW 326rb build thread.

oh, good shit. so wiring and finally assembly when u get it back??

no. radiator mounting. then bodywork and paint. THEN worong + assembly. Also need to mount my seats and shit.

yeah, ur better off getting the body work done first. a lot of work to go still. any ideas on how ur gonna tackle body work? what do u need to get done on the body?

Some small dents and a small bit of rust. The underbody needs to be soada blasted, then painted. The antenna needs to be shaved and the sunroof needs to be glassed.

Just kinda thinking out loud here:

The car can’t go in to soda blasting until the end of next week.

This means that during this next week and a half i need to accomplish the following:

  • Mount new radiator.
  • Fix the two rust holes on the rocker panel
  • Shave the antenna hole
  • Glass up the sunroof opening

If time permits, i can also:

  • Fit the dash/cut around the cage
  • Mount new seats
  • Building a surge tank

While the car is at the blaster, I plan on

  • painting the valve covers
  • Installing the new timing belt
  • Building a fuel rail
  • Installing new water pump, thermo, etc.
  • Machining the manifold

Then, once the car is back from the blaster, I need to:

  • Paint the underbody w/ a rattle can
  • Primer the engine bay
  • Remove front and rear glass
  • Minor bodywork
  • Install new fenders and fit fender flares
  • Paint suspension components and install new suspension
  • Paint roll cage

Then the car has to go to paint.

After paint
It needs to be finished. This includes things like:

  • Mount fuel pump
  • Fuel lines, etc
  • WIRING (big task)
  • Carpet
  • a whole bunch of other shit that’s too far out to think about…

I’m sure i’m missing a ton…

thats alotta shit.

…but just think of where you were in december.

yeah… it’s really not a lot. It is, but i’d like to think that a lot of the hard shit is out of the way. Most of this shit is just labor.

I havent read through this entire thread yet, so i dont know your whole game plan, but out of curiosity, wouldn’t it make more sense to do the above things after the car gets soda blasted?? So far, everything is turning out great though.

yeah i hear ya. that wiring is gonna be a shit mess the whole time.

good luck with the remainder of the project. really cant wait to see the finished product.

 to someone actually having an idea and completely going thru with it!

Well, i am only having the underbody/engine bay soda blasted. The paint on the rest of the car just needs to be roughed.

I just want to get it out of the way. i won’t apply bondo before the blasting though. just welding in the metal and putting the glass in the cracks

Thank you.

ahh ok…thats why i asked…i assumed you were getting the whole car blasted. all makes sense now. gl with it.

any pics of the car as it came back from the chassis shop?

not yet.

this thing is going to be such a pile of rice

Quick pics. Built the lower radiator supports, but a bad call on a bleeder screw location is going to require a minor change.

The cage needs to be changed. The door bars hit the shoulder bolsters on the seats and the harness bar needs to be moved back a bit, but Vito said he will make the changes for free.

Holla.

not complicated enough :stuck_out_tongue:

sick role cage!!!

how come you didn’t run your two rear roll bars into the node you have by the top of the B pillar? not enough room to slide them over with the rear shock towers?

are you keeping the awd???

well played.
