Newman's 1986 BMW 326rb build thread.

Is 2200 for the front and rear? If so, that’s pretty reasonable. I plan on picking up some sort of Porsche front calipers and rotors for my S-car. It’s like 1300 for the fronts, seems kinds high for what you get.

So here’s what I did the past couple of days:

Installed new front hubs, ireland engineering stage 3 springs, bilstein sport struts and new OEM strut mounts. Everything is tight and new.

Also did the rear wheel bearings, with new OEM backing plate (required to hold the ebrake components)

Then I por15’d the trunk area. I am going to put rhinoliner over the top of this when it’s dry. I like the protection that POR15 gives, but like the finish of the rhinoliner. So this is the best of both worlds.

I am going to paint the cage some zany color, only in the trunk. Thoughts?

Once that is all done, I’ll install these new bilstein shock setups (with new upper mounts), along with ireland springs and M3 perches.

Next I snapped some pics of some of the parts I have laying around for this thing:

FPR, fuel filter, catch can, fittings for 044 pump, injectors, water pump, AEM serial gauge, AEM EMS, Tial 35mm WG and tial 50MM BOV.

And some more stuff:

Momo 300mm wheel, turbo timer (for ricers, prob won’t install), 4 greddy warning gauges (I think I have 2 more somehere), AEM UEGO controller, Corbeau Harnesses (rest of harness not pictured)

Lastly, took some long overdue pics of my wheels. The FIT, thank god… Checked em out today… I’ll need t buy rubber soon.

Those wheels are hot as fuck. Can i borrow them?

Paint the cage in the trunk pink. Hot pink.

Great progress.

woodgrain everything. even yourself

Pink does not go well with green…

That’s not Ballin, you need to throw a Hundred dolla bill in there for good picture quality ballinosity.

he already did that^ the shocks are leaning against an unprotected door of an 80k car.

I like this project newman, its sick as hell. keep it up.
Paint the cage in the trunk body color, because the inside of the trunk is black.
It will be the exact opposite of the interior of the car, which is body color with a black cage.

I say you paint it purple, barney themed ftw lol, then for spite throw in a stuffed animal barney in the trunk

wow… you’ve got the same suspension setup as me…

IE stage 3, their big swaybar kit, bilstein sports, etc…

I’ll let you know how I like it after this weekend.

Did you replace all the control arm bushings? I can’t believe how tight everything feels… I love it…

the fronts were replaced right before I got it… I’m not sure about the rear end bushings.

Did you get the m3 offset ones?

don’t think so, they were done before I got the car.

from the one autoX I did last weekend I have plenty of front traction, it’s the rear end that is way too drift happy… I’m installing the sway bars on friday and hoping they fix it (mostly the front one)

I’ve been emailing Jeff Ireland, he’s been very helpful with answering my questions.

basically his springs are designed for his big sways to be used and will suck without them for anything beyond street driving.

Do the cage in the truck chrome yellow

Big  to the wheels

Enough with the funky colours… please don’t make this thing look like a clown car…it’s much too rad.

That’s a load of horse shit. The car drives perfectly fine with stock sways, if you know how to drive.

I am a RWD noob… it’s entirely possible I’m driving it wrong… all I know is that I had to wait super late to apply power or the back was all over the place (I thought it was springs binding, but it’s not). It might also be very different on the PS cups… I can’t wait to try them on saturday… what sort of cold/hot pressure should I aim for?

and you know what my next question is, so let me know when you’re home.

I don’t think it will be too wild from the outside.

It’s just the hidden stuff that’s wacky looking.
