Ninja 250???????????

I wanted to get a motorcycle this year but i only have about 5K to spend. I have ridden my friends Ninja ZX-6R quite a few times. So what i guess im trying to ask is since i have ridden bigger bikes if i get a 2011 Ninja 250R is that bike going to be boring to me and should i just get a used bigger bike for around 5K.

250 would still be a good start. Or maybe even start on a 500cc bike. Ride it for a year and then move up to the ZX-6R if you want. I would suggest though not dumping all 5k into a 250/500 bike, especially a brand new one. You’ll probably want to sell it in a year anyways and then you’ll end up taking a huge loss. Find something cheaper and used, and get yourself some nice gear with the money you do save.

Ninja 500’s or Suzuki GS500’s are good options to consider in the 500cc class.

edit- better yet, I know someone selling their 250 http://www.nyspeed.com/showthread.php?215198-2009-Kawasaki-Ninja-250-with-extended-factory-warranty

You will get bored of the 250 real soon,I started with a honda f4i 600 and as long as you respect the bike and don’t douche around and ride over your head you will be fine. If you dont have the self control then start with a 250. But whatever you do dont buy a new bike, you will lose your ass after a year if you try to resell it.

You can start on a 600 no problem. Just don’t crank the throttle and take it easy and you will be fine.

I started on a 250, I had the most fun on that, I used to trail ride it and just beat the piss out of it. The 250 topped out at 110. It got old fast riding with faster bikes. I would start on a 600 if if had to do it again. Yet i have never had as much fun on any other bike, that i had with the 250

Its much more fun to go fast on a slow bike than it is to go slow on a fast bike…

such a true quote.

Quoted for truth. I had more fun on a friends ninja 500 than on my own 636.

dont buy a 250 if you can already ride you will kick yourself in a week or less

how much is it for a brand new 2011 250 around Buffalo area?

True. Now don’t buy a new bike for your first bike. Much less one that you will outgrow in a week after you scratch up all the shiny new plastic.

Besides, aren’t these things like $3500 new?

I know this…

I was offering the person who trying to sell an 09 250 about $2750, but then she wants $3300.00 . At that price, I would rather buy new.

^^^I’m not sure why she is being so stubborn on the price, but I think $3k would be fair for that 250. And that’s only because of the warranty. A warranty is a great thing to have on a bike that’s highly desirable and meant to be kept for a while. 250’s don’t fit the longevity bill for most owners so it’s almost pointless to have besides being a nice selling point. Brand new 250’s are MSRP around $4k so I’m not sure how good of a deal you could get right now in the Spring. Don’t bother buying new, you’ll just end up losing your ass on it when you sell it a year later or less. Find something used so you don’t take such a loss. Sorry she wouldn’t meet you lower than $3300, hopefully she’ll get the hint that you just can’t get that in this market.

^^^This will be my first bike  Just to ride from home to work during the Summer. I would rather getting something used like around $2,500 to learn with. Thanks for the advice.

I got an R1 for my first bike. Say a prayer for me or a spatula whatever works.

Again, easy on the throttle and you will be fine.

Fuck throttle control, 12 o’clock that shit and steal virginities.

how about an enduro?

im buying a regular sized bike and practicign on my friends 250 for a bit. im too big for a 250 (the new ones are OK sized, but still)

Yea I rode an f3 for a few weeks one season then went to a 636.

buy/learn on something that you wont care to tip over. lean too far at a stop, too much front brake, forget to put the kick stand down, etc.
