How realistic would it be to get some sort of carbon monoxide intoxication or poisioning driving a 4cyl vehicle with no cat? I’m not smelling a lot of fumes but sometimes I can which is expected and I’m getting paranoid now, lol. I’ll weld on a high-flow cat when I get the extra cash but should I be worried?
If you breath in fumes with or without a cat you will die.
You could buy a canary and keep it in the car with you. If the canary dies it’s time to pull over, shut down, and put the windows down for a while. It’s probably cheaper than a high flow cat.
What happened to :run: ?
that is a solid idea
been doing it for years
Naw, around the same. ![]()
you think this shit through WAY too much.
Been doing it forever, still going strong.
Where does your exhaust exit? If it’s the stock location you’re fine because the engineers looked at airflow and had the exhaust exit in a way that it wouldn’t back draft into the car.
pretty sure a catalytic converter does NOTHING to carbon monoxide… it converts other gasses to “harmless” byproducts…
you are smelling the other stuff…
That’s a problem of mine. ![]()
Yeah, stock location.
It converts over 90% of the carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide I think.
i went on a 4 hour road trip with my integra with my hatch open. YES, you will get fucked up after 4 hours of driving. And my car had a cat on it.
The only thing not having a cat will do is allow you to smell the fumes entering your car sooner
my winter neon has no cat, or O2 sensors, and 14 exhaust leaks, youll be ok
Cats are silly, and so is the environment.
You don’t want to be breathing in exhaust with a cat, or without. Removing it just makes it easier to smell, and eliminates the possibility of your cat clogging.
im ditching my cats asap…there dumb and im allergic
fixed.
and isn’t co not able to be smelled? :x
but i wouldn’t give two hoots about it, unless there’s spots under your car where it’s rusted through or such…
then maybe.
but i’d be worried about that even if i had a cat on the car.
You can’t smell or taste carbon monoxide. Check for exhaust leaks if you smell stuff inside the car. If the exhaust exits at the factory location, you shouldn’t have much if any exhaust flowing back into the vehicle.
Yeah, I know it’s odorless and tasteless and my car is crisp underneith, no rust. It’s just sometimes I think "Well If I can smell fumes sometimes then what’s stoping carbon monoxide from entering the cabin too. But the exhaust pipes bend exactly like stock and even the aftermarket muffler sits sideways like a Neon retaining the stock exhaust outlet also. I get paranoid :o
no cat for years, have no yet died. even drove around on open downpipe exiting under my front seats for 6 months
