Alright i have an exaust leak on the manifold right next to the head, and when i say right next to the head i meen the part of the manifold that is touching the head.
Anyways, i have a really loud ticking, that never seems to go away, never changes in the pitch or anything, dosnt get quiter or louder, just faster when i giver gas, I showed it to the guy at nissan and he said its probably just the valves your hearing since there is nothing to quite them down? Seem right?
Maybe a stuck lifter?
You should check to see if the sound is coming from the front cover. It could be a timing chain guide. They are not to hard to replace, they are just a pain in the arss to get to. And plus the part is cheap. To check for the sound just stick a long screwdriver against the front cover while the car is running and put your ear to the other side, that way you can hear what is going on inside.

My '92 coupe has the exact same ticking you described… I always thought it was internal, but my mechanic said it’s nothing more than a header leak.
