Ok jabbu, oh rider of TWC nutz - I just called TWC to set up service. My options were:
$9.99 a month for 2-13, or
$57.99 a month for digital cable, 2-99 + music, on demand, crappy various 100+ channels (and that’s on sale from the normal price of $72.99)
Where’s my 2-71, non-digital, was $40 a month cable???
From what I understand about DSL, they give you your own pipe to the CO, from the CO you are still sharing the same pipe to the internet with all the others…
Cable you share with your neighbors, which can blow if you are on campus dr in amherst or some of the well packed neighborhoods. They’ll still split a node if it is overcrowded, it won’t happen overnight, but they won’t keep a node at capacity.
Ya DSL is nice becuase your speeds are dependent on your pipe to your CO. The closer you are, the higher speeds you can have and its dependent on your line from you to directly back. In Rochester, I was right near the COs station so my internet was able to get almost maxed at 8Mbps while in the city now, my DSL is only maxed at 3Mbps. Cable relies on how much people are using the total “pipe” in your area which has a larger impact on your speeds but you are allowed faster connections due to the different technology and bandwidth available on a co-ax cable.
