NSX will have to wait...bought a house...

Timing belt right? I was going to use that as leverage against him. NOT looking for fast, 14s is more than fast enough, like my old SRT4.

The viper is too fast (for me) to enjoy at WOT if I’m not in a straight line, I want to be able to hammer the throttle without worrying about spinning out. 14s sounds perfect.

I wonder how the clutch is.

emailed him, let’s see what he says.

Yep timing belt. You can do it yourself, there are plenty of resources out there.

You can still spin out, lol. I went off the road several times in my NA. It’s not a crazy oversteer car, but you can still make it happen.

How tall are you? This does make a difference because the seating position works better for dudes 6’ and under.

Not tall, 5’9, so that helps

I’d say good? It was a southern car and the suspension was all gone through. It’s a 90s GM car that is fun.

I’d say out of the cars that I’ve auto crossed over the years it doesn’t have the steering wheel “magic”

GM fwd < 3rd / 4th Gen F-bod < C5 < BMW electric steering < 5th / 6th Gen Camaro rentals < E36/46/9x BMW < 6th Gen 1LE < 240SX < BRZ < Miata < S2000 < Cayaman

None of those are really back to back, so order could change a couple spots.

If I wasn’t distracted by racing crap cans I think LFX swap Miata or LS swap Cayman would be close to the top of my list.

nice thanks for the info! I probably wouldn’t track it, I don’t really track anything anymore. I like taking long cruises blasting my beats, change the fluids tune it up call it a day

My Z32 was wrecked twice by other drivers, I would be curious if the Auto was worse for unexpected downshift.

Gotcha.

Because this car is a '90 it has tweed interior panels instead of the nouveau suede of later models. The steering wheel is unique to that year too (no airbag). The heated mirrors are on a switch in the center instead of being linked to the rear defrost button. There are a few other oddities about the first production year.

Ask for pictures of the frame rails if he can get them. They sit low to the ground and get beat up when you launch them off the road as I did, lol.

I drove mine all over. The NA is known for being bulletproof when it comes to reliability.

I’d love to be able to blame my shit driving as a kid (in retrospect) on the auto, but I can’t. :innocent:

I had an HKS ALC installed to firm up the shifts and hold the gears out longer. It always sounded like a manual even if it wasn’t one.

Thanks for the info!!

He got back to me, I’m going to look at the car next week, if it’s worth purchasing I will holla at @Onyx_Z32

I’m thinking this

=

I am pretty stoked, hope he let’s me take it around the block at least.

No fascia, no wing, put the factory wheels in storage.

I agree, keep it wingless. The holes for wings just encourage the hatch to rot. I’ve had mine repaired a few times. People always want to open the heavy hatch by lifting the spoiler.

The NA factory wheels are not worth much since they’re not as wide as the TT wheels. And remember any size change up and you’ll need to lower the car so it doesn’t look like an SUV. And lowering requires upper control arms to adjust camber or you’ll burn through tires.

Aftermarket front bumpers mostly suck when it comes to fitment. Not worth the time and effort IMO. If you want to change it up, get a TT front bumper (they sit lower than the NA bumpers) or get the '99 Spec front bumper. Both are polyurethane and hold up / fit great. And you can find great quality splash shields & ducts.

Exhaust is always good. Might as well remove all the cats and throw in test pipes while you’re down there. You don’t need much to make it sound amazing. I’m looking for @King’s vid clip of how his NA sounded. It sounded better than my car for sure.

Also keep in mind @bing can get you lots of different suspension and exhaust parts.

And used parts here: http://twinturbo.net/nissan/300zx/forums/classified/current/forum.html

Let’s see if this works:

No sounds :frowning:

Are the control arms needed on just fronts or all around? I’ve only been able to find adjustable fronts for $400. But I may have to hit up @bing.

The SPEC front bumper is beautiful! Do you think I would need side skirts & a rear bumper to complete the look?

I must say I would still like a low profile wing. The only water this car would ever see is from being washed, and I could paint the ID of the holes after they’re drilled to prevent corrosion. And no one is going to touch shit on my car, just like my other cars lol

EDIT - Just called Mike Barney Nissan, surprisingly, they only want $800 to do the timing belt and water pump. Only calls for 5 hours labor, parts are roughly $90.

The '99 spec had side skirts on TTs and none on NAs… Definitely didn’t have a different rear bumper.

This is the last year brochure: NISSAN FAIRLADY Z / 300ZX | GF-Z32 / CZ32 / GZ32 / GCZ32 | May, 1999

There are a ton of rear wing options, but again I like to sick with factory due to fitment issues. My favorite is the one I have, but the earlier ones had small flush mount wings. '99 spec had it’s own.

Careful. I’d consider doing it yourself honestly.

Nissan policy back in the day was that only the senior tech could work on a Z. That doesn’t exist anymore AFAIK. Very few dealerships have people who have worked on these cars now-a-days I’d imagine.

And not at Mike Barney, but @2TurboZ had a timing belt nightmare because of a dealership… And that was WITH the senior tech if I remember correctly.

And I’m questioning that 5 hours & parts cost. It’s likely they didn’t quite you the FULL 60k maintenance and only the timing belt.
