NSX will have to wait...bought a house...

Nice man! Yeah I’ll have to come take a look. Congrats!

Thanks but it’s not official yet! There is one noise at 2500rpm, it’s not in the drivetrain i do not think. It’s from the right rear of the car, he acknowledged it and said there’s a baffle in the muffler that isn’t working properly/not functioning, this is specifically what I’d like you to hear if you make it out!

That’s not likey a baffle. There’s an extensive series of heat shields under there that I’d guess is the cause. It’s that stuff that you’ll remove anyway.

Sounds good.

I’m currently sending out emails to different shops around town, so far for the 60k service West Herr Nissan wants 2 grand, which isn’t so bad considering I’ll be doing this every 6-10 years, but for this price I may do it myself, though I’ve only ever done a timing belt on a neon before.

Does anyone on NYSpeed work on these? I am going to give Black forest a call - Gave him a call, he recommended Licata’s, just waiting on their call back.

I’ve also emailed Village Import Auto and C&C Auto so far.

Any recommendations are welcome.

If I can keep it under a certain price, I’d rather hand it to a shop.

The last person to do my timing belt was @turbociv but that was YEARS ago. And I used a JUN belt so I wont have to replace it as often.

$2k sounds more like it for the cost.

@RacerX (Jeff) at Licata’s has experience. But you’ll be paying shop rate there for him to do it, IF he still does it. Last I knew he was in more of a manager role there.

I spoke to the front desk at Licata’s, they said they’d call me back, never did lol

I spoke to the shop manager at Mike Barney Nissan, he said based on the mileage, and that the belt appears to look okay (no dry rot, cracks etc), he said the previous owner just may not know about replacement as he’s only owned it 4 years. He told me to bring it in, and let them give it a once owner before throwing a couple grand at it.

Edit - he noted that he has two Z tech’s who have been there 35 years and recently completed a 120k and 180k mileage service on z cars.

Keep in mind the service is not just the belt though. There are cam & crank seals, etc. The tensioner which hasn’t seen much action in years. Water pump is likely fine depending on it’s gasket.

they did list all the seals and VCT springs as part of the service

Oh yeah, I was replying to what they said about looking at the timing belt condition. And that’s only one component, so they can’t just look at the belt to determine if the service was done.

makes sense, I’m aiming for saturday morning, figuring out if my boss needs me or not, may have to move it to sunday.

That 300zx is a really nice looking car. Nice purchase

Thank you! But it isn’t official until it’s in my driveway, I’m going to give it another once over before I hand over the cash.

It’s most likely going to go to Mike Barney Nissan to get looked over, I put 2 grand aside for the 60k service. I brought the seller down 1500 so 500 extra out of pocket. I don’t want to fuck with the timing on this thing.

Spoke to Nick at Licata’s and he was awesome, I will be bringing the car there after pickup.

Nice!!

Thanks man! My first non American car, very cool getting used to the feeling of driving something different. Had the tops off on the way home, absolutely beautiful, way different than a convertible which isn’t for me.

I love the t-tops. More so the older I get. But remember to clean your left ear if you’re rolling with the windows down too, lol.

Yes sir!

My first mod is already done, I removed the front license plate bracket, left a little mark but I’ll be swapping bumpers anyway so it’s all good.

While at Licatta’s I’m going to have them put on an Unorthodox UDP, it really woke up a few others cars I’ve had and this bad boy could use all the help it could get, I have to say my neon is faster than this car lol but nothing beats cruising down the road with those tops off.

I didn’t realize how little hp these had. Basically full bolt ons and tune will net you 190-200hp.

Yes definitely very slow, but this was to be expected. I put it on par with a base/SL 3000gt.

@Onyx_Z32 recommended the test pipes and exhaust, didn’t know these could be chipped, didn’t think a 90 had that capability.
