I know in one of the versions of the bill I read it said creating a firearm without a serial number would be made a felony.
Also if they haven’t already, we don’t want them to know about it.
ah. makes sense.
The major issue here isn’t even gun control its elected officials manipulating the system to push bills through.
It might not be this that effects you directly but eventually something will like SOPA, wire tapping laws, extracting email with out warrants, etc
Maybe NY will follow CA into some next level emissions laws with cars and stop them from being modded lol
Sorry, just looking for an update.
So are Preban guns and preban clips, are they still preban and able to be used? Did they change that now?
30 round preban clips, can you keep them but only load 7 rounds in them?
From what I read, I saw you need to sell clips? And if you dont you can be charged… but then it said something about if you get caught with more than 7 bullets in the clip… meaning you can have a 10 round clip with only 7 rounds in the clip?

H.R.142 – Stop Online Ammunition Sales Act of 2013
Already too late for NY, but looks like the rest of the country too, maybe.

^ You can keep your 10 rnd mags as long as you only load 7 in them.
Your pre-ban mags that hold more than 10 are now illegal. I can’t remember if it’s 90 days or a year, but you have to get rid of them. If you show up to the swamps with 30rnd pre-ban mag that was legal 2 days ago expect to be charged.
the 30 round mags are now illegal and you have 60 days to get rid of them. I’m not totally sure about the 10 round mags some places I have read that you can keep them, but only load 7 rounds, and others I have read that you have to sell those too.
My understanding is that if you already have them you are good, just load 7 rounds. Any new gun purchases must only have 7 round mags. So will FFLs need to pin them or something since there arent too many current, available, choices with 7 round mags?

Right, I thought preban cant be changed and if it does, it goes against a constitutional right. (Not saying I’m a lawyer or know this law at all) Correct me please if I am wrong.
No one said what they’ve done is legal. The law that is in effect today says your pre-ban mags are illegal. If you are out shooting with them and are caught, expect to be charged. This entire thing, but this part banning prebans especially, will DEFINITELY be challenged in court. That however makes no difference to the LEO who finds you shooting with a magazine deemed illegal by this recently passed legislation. Regardless of scholarly debate about if this law will stand up to a supreme court challenge it is currently the law of the land.
No its legal are you trying to refer to ex post facto laws? Those don’t apply in this case either.
However the supreme court has ruling over firearms in “common usage” before which might help NY get some of this knocked down.
Someone also mentioned this law has a severability clause so even if they rule on one section everything won’t get repealed.
Thank you, I thought that was the case. Just looking out for friends and passing the word to those not informed. Obviously there will be a lot of people hiding mags and other stuff as well.
I’m stoked about the registration process as much as I would love to take a stand I get at least 1 background check every 3-6 months if not more.
Hopefully they release the process soon
On a positive note my plan is to be out of NY in 3-5 years so im hopefully no confiscation BS will happen.
How does the registration thing work? If you sell someone your legally licensed firearm, then they don’t register it, what happens? If they come confiscating, who’s to say the person you “sold” it to didn’t register it?
Yesterday a law abiding citizen, today a felon. So when they say people are leaving NYS because of our economic issues they can add this BS to the list of reasons?
I have family here too and if it wasn’t for them I would have left a LONG time ago. This is just the straw that broke the camel’s back for me, just add this to the list of reasons NYS sucks and I will be looking out of state for work.
It doesn’t really work like that now.
You get a background check to purchase a long gun and the gun store keeps forms but its never really registered.
Yeah, it’s up to individuals what level of risk they’re willing to accept. I’m sure a lot of people are going to hide them hoping this gets repealed and as long as they are law abiding citizens other than keeping these items the chances of the government being allowed to search your premises and busting you for having an illegal mag are pretty damn slim. That said, if you’re going to hide them, really hide them (under floorboards, inside walls etc). Never know when you might invite police in (burglary etc) and if they stumble across them in good faith you’re still in trouble.
Another way to look at is this. If you have your AR with 30 rnd mags to protect yourself/family because you think:
- Society is going to collapse into civil war
- The zombie apocalypse is coming
- At some point the government is going to push the people into another revolutionary war
- Red Dawn style invasion
- Something about new world order/s1onists and an international war
- Some doomsday scenario like in The Road
At the point any of those happen and you bust out all your “illegal” mags that you sealed up behind some drywall the laws that made them illegal aren’t really going to matter anymore. The people these laws really hurt are the normal sportsmen who enjoy target shooting without constantly stopping to reload.
Yea they even mentioned this yesterday
Law abiding people don’t usually get in trouble for this stuff like the old AWB in NY it was charges they added on if you got arrested.
I heard there is a rally in Niagara Square this Saturday? Anyone hear anything? Anyone going?
People are rallying outside Cuomos meet in Rochester (what I just saw with the news)
