I would be in favor of money fines and get rid of the point system completely so I can just pay the speeding tax and go on about my business rather than having to pay a lawyer and playing the game
And if you do it in the city of buffalo and push back the court date several times and get a lawyer it ends up closer to $1400. I know people with a DWI that got off easier.
Im pretty sure thats the maximum fine in Ontario for 20 over right now.
So basically if youre rich, the road is your personal speedway… sounds safe.
Obviously, what a horrible statement. If you truly are rich you can do whatever you want anyways. Since I don’t have a NYS driver license the points don’t bother me one bit. Still it’s not worth the hassle of getting pulled over to speed. If you want to speed you do it in a group with a lead car clearing the way, everyone with two way radios. Really easy we do it all the time lol.
This is just for the average joe that get nailed doing 10 over or whatever. I’ve gotten tickets in Hamburg for 6 over and the likes (51 in 45) come on.
if you’re rich in NY, you can run over a girl on a skateboard, leave her for dead, and get away with it… what’s your point?
Mental note: free beer for snoracer101.
Yeah, I’d say VA is the worst. I’ve heard stories about $1500 fines for serious tickets and they don’t reduce anything there. Florida has some stupidly strict laws for excessive speeding (like 40 over) also.
I don’t see the huge deal. I’m occasionally an idiot on the street but got my first speeding ticket last September in years…and that was in my DD. If you’re not stupid and know when and how to do it it’s pretty hard to get caught…especially with a good radar detector (and knowing how to use it).
Not 100% correct…I brushed up on this as that September ticket I got was 23 over. 21-30mph is 6 points which kicks in the DRA of $100 a year for 3 years. With the $85 surcharge on that you’re paying $385 to the state alone plus whatever the town/village/city throws at you. Every point over that is $25 so if you did get an 11 point ticket (which is 40+ over) then yeah, it’d be a $1000 ticket. However, at 11 points your license is suspended so you have other problems to worry about.
Wait are you saying Texas (or are there any states that) dont use a point system or do they just not share between states?
points are not shared between states.
I dont think thats true in all cases, im pretty sure many states have agreements. At least thats what ive been told in the past.
They do with states that touch NY
Most states don’t have a points system period (or have them but don’t really use them). NY only shares with a few boarding states. I can drive with my Texas license never have to worry about the stupid points system. In most cases a speeding ticket from someone out of state ends in an agreed fine amount and you’re done. A state may contact another state about a ticket but they usually only care if you don’t show or pay and it gets turned into a bench warrant.
This has never been true.
However, DC/MD/VA/DE do all accept points from eachother. Which is the worst.
wrong thread. lol
yes when i had my NYS license i would speed constantly in PA and now with a PA license i don’t worry about tickets in NY…the only thing they will share is a DUI/DWI arrest.
as for the VA thing they also have some kind of law where if you are witnessed doing 3 violations in a short period of time they can hit you for some kind of umbrella violation that will take away your license. at least that is what the trooper told me after pulling me over on the beltway. supposedly i was speeding, changing lanes “too quickly” and following too closely…and on top of that i didn’t even slow when there was an accident on the other side of the jersey barrier…why the hell would i slow down to rubber neck?
after all of that he just let me go?
