NYC Strikes

FUCK YOU UNIONS (Not all)

FUCK YOU

Unions are bordering legal organized crime

Subways? How’d you get to work?

Subways and Buses…are teh Ferry’s running…my girlfriend’s brother lives in Staten Island…his girlfriend works in Manhattan…she needs to take the Bus and Ferry to work…i bet she didnt make it

while im not a pro-union kinda guy, the MTA did a few shady things on their end too, or so it appeared

Unions are digging their own grave. They have ZERO place in the modern economy/business world. They had their place back in the day, now all they are doing is shooting themselves in the foot. :cough:GM:cough:

And the strikes are actually illegal, so it really is organized crime.

:word: that strike is illegal as all hell

:word: x 9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999

They always have been.
The only unions with any strength are the ones that don’t have foreign competition. eg: Government employees

CNN has a pretty good article.

http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/12/20/nyc.transit/index.html

Hours before the strike, Toussaint said transit workers were prepared to lower their wage increase demands to below 6 percent if the MTA agreed to reduce the number of disciplinary actions launched against transit workers and grant other concessions.

The workers had been asking for an 8 percent annual wage increase.

Ridiculous! How many private sector jobs will give a contract guarantying an 8% raise per year, or even a 5%?!?!? FU Unions, I hope you fully burn that bridge you’re standing on.

werd. fuck the unions

In the beginning they were there for a good purpose…but now is out of control

agree…FUCK UNIONS!!!

i agree that the MTA union (TWU) is asking for too much, but if you worked with rats with bad healthcare and saw your company give away $1 billion you probably would be a bit miffed.
i was able to make it to work, got a nice walk out of it, and didn’t experience major delays besides me oversleeping from staying up half the night trying to find out if they were going to strike or not.

fortunately for me i go on vacation after today so i don’t have to deal with this.
good luck.

I’d love an 8% raise every year. At that rate, I’d hit the $100,000 / year mark when I am 46. Maybe I should make it my goal to beat that.

The worst part is it’s a guaranteed. You suck at your job, 8%. Massive downturn in the economy, 8%. I’ve had years where I’ve done better than 8%, but it was years when I took on huge tasks and responsibilities and made my company lots of money. If I just came in and punched the clock for a 40 hour week (oh wait, I’m in a union in this daydream… make that 35 hours a week) I wouldn’t expect more than a cost of living increase.

:word:

Keep in mind that these people are semi skilled with minimal education.
8% is a huge raise in this era of jobs going over seas.
3,000,000 manufacturing jobs left this country last year.
I have said it before, this is starting to remind me of the USSR,
get a job with the government because they are the richest people.

do they really make 45-55k a year? that seems a bit ridiculous to me.

i don’t think they make that much. even nypd and teachers start out at about 30k but keep in mind a 1 bedroom apartment in brooklyn costs over $200,000

cant the company just hire new workers and flip the bird to the union?

No, they have laws to protect the criminals I mean unions.

oops, i didnt really consider the cost of living there. that would make a bit more sense. still seems kinda high to me though for an uneducated/unskilled worker. guess i am just jealous…

cnn said 47k-55k yesterday, kind of took me by surprise.

The MTA also has offered the transit workers, who make between $47,000 and $55,000 a year, 3 percent annual raises for each of three years.

There are other places to live for cheaper though.
