Maybe they’re trying to eliminate fast food from daily diets? LOL I actually saw that as a viable reason for this decision…yeah, that’s it, the government actually wants to see you eat healthier and they’re willing to to go about it this way…OK
I’m trying to understand how the people who own mighty taco have 15-20 locations or whatever it is now but someone who owns a single McDonalds franchise has to play by and entirely separate set of rules
Oh and this McDonald’s sales plunge. CEO calls results ‘disappointing’
http://money.cnn.com/2015/07/23/investing/mcdonalds-earnings-sales-down/index.html
There are currently 23: www.mightytaco.com/locations.php
But, I am interested in what is going to happen to Jreck’s, currently 42 to go to 44: http://www.jrecksubs.com/Location.html
As a business owner do you pay 70% more payroll or cut back 33% on locations?
Is there any data to the median pay of people in the jobs expected to be raised to $15 are? I would think this has a much greater impact on new hires but also feel the timeline rolled out hardly is defeating inflation anyhow.
Anyhow I am bummed to see more government intervention in business especially when just selecting certain categories. That goes against the fundamentals of capitalism. As pointed out though (kiosks, etc) can often times happen as a result in market disruption. Over time this could be a good thing for the fast food companies. Some will adapt well and potentially find efficiency that they likewise would not have explored. Some will not and profits/marketshare will erode.
Either way I like to see the products of market disruption(this really won’t be) as it will be an interesting case study read 20 years from now.
Oh and for the future when locations close and or kiosks come in due to adapting to business conditions.

i saw an article a couple months back about the statistics of who is actually working these jobs.
Theres a lot of argument about “needing to support a family.”
The amount of families relying on this type of income is a fraction of 1% of the population - the majority of these workers are 16 year old males, this being their first job…perfect for minimum wage, as they are NOT raising families with this income.
WTF is the problem again?
Idiots.
The line for the next Jordans release just grew by a good mile.
Fox news article I’m assuming? The news station that admits that only 30%-40% of what it says is true, and does not have a duty to report the truth.
Try some peer reviewed research:
I’d like to point out, just to clarify to @boxxa, that not all school districts have unions. Substitute teachers are not eligible to join unions if they do exist. I am part of our schools teacher union, though not an active member, so although I disagree with this agenda, it will not affect me. What is DOES affect though, are my students and their parents.
JUST to clear that one up…lol
How does them making less than a dollar raise per year until 2021 affect you? This is the private sector. It will work it self out and the only benefit is that we have 200,000 people adding more tax money into the state from their new found raise.
Lol too much Fox News.
Most of the part time work force at the min wage level is women and almost half the household income came from min wage work.
Less than half of the work force is under 20.
More than half the min wage work force is actually full time.

Why do well in school and try hard to make $15-16 when you can be a fuck up flip burgers and make $15 :tspry:
I do see some old as people working at mcdonalds and tim hortons sometimes. Ever go to the pembroke rest stop with the time hortons? Theres like 5 old people regularly working the counter and making donuts.
I feel pretty bad for some of these people, they have jobs kids should be working.
Maybe the problem is everyone is currently under paid but most of the middle class havent noticed because they make enough to live decently. I mean i went to school with a dude that was layed off from GM, he was a welder, he said he hasnt made less than $20 an hour since the 80’s, i just finally hit $20/hr 2 weeks ago lol
Maybe cost of living has increased a lot faster than all wages but im no expert, but i only made 15/hr like 2 years ago and it wasnt much, but i did buy a house with my girlfriend at that time.
@boxxa This is why.
We struggle on a daily basis to motivate kids to do well and acquire some sort of skills to bring to the work force. This does nothing but completely sideswipe any effort we make.
I can’t force feed students knowledge and I can’t just “make” them contributing members of society, but I have to try to interest them in the fields that will allot them a comfortable lifestyle.
BUT, when they are presented an easy and viable option…one that their parents support and rely on, they will ultimately fall back on that option.
Poverty is an mentality as well as a situation. It’s our jobs at teachers, especially mine, to change student’s mentality toward working and ultimately change their situation.
@King says a fraction of 1% of the population is working these (minimum wage) jobs, then you link to an article that doesn’t refute it while assuming his source?
a) 321,230,000 people in the US - Demographics of the United States - Wikipedia
b) 1% of that = 3.2 Million
c) http://www.bls.gov/cps/minwage2013.pdf (from 2013, so is your article)
… About 1.5 million earned exactly the prevailing federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour. About 1.8 million had wages below the federal minimum. Together, these 3.3 million workers with wages at or below the federal minimum…
Look at where the data is from. 1% is pretty damn close seeing as even they use the word “about.” Also from the Bureau of labor statistics:
50.4% are ages 16 to 24; 24% are teenagers (ages 16 to 19)
Largely part-time workers (64% of the total)
So his assertion that:
Actually looks pretty accurate. No all 1% of this is families, so even just subtracting 24% from the 3.3m for teenagers and you’re left with a fraction of 1% of the population.

Man, you guys need to quit blaming Fox. Look at the data from my BLS link which is where the DOL gets it’s data in the first place.
Maybe you should teach the kids economics and the work force supply and demand but then again remember when teaching was the best way to get an education and then a job right out before everyone decided to go to school for teaching and became waiters due to everyone being teachers and slowing school demands for them?
Unless McDonalds is expanding at a rapid pace, their current number of jobs that would qualify is very limited.
i think if someone can be persuaded by the appeal of making a living making minimum wage then your connection with them to enlighten them has passed. Some kids are just made to flip burgers and clean toilets.
I havn’t been in public school for a few years but instead of raising the minimum wage to an arbitrary number (ahh. fight for fifteen. the alliteration just sounded too damn good) why doesn’t the state spend tax payers dollars appropriately and do a better job of promoting skilled labor? There is a ridiculous amount of people protesting for fifteen dollars when we have a shortage of workers in industries that require little schooling. These pinko commies think we can fund some fantasy society where everyone can live comfortably regardless of the effort put in. Want to raise the lower class? Have them complete work that benefits everyone. Giving these guys $15 an hour for some shit job doesn’t help the economy just because they spend it all.
I will say i do hvac, which is skilled trade. I want to school for a one year certificate, came out of school and made $10/hr, then 8 months later went to a bigger company, got 12/hr, then 4months later, 14/hr, then 5months later 15/hr. Then i basically asked for 18/hr 4months after that because i felt i was doing well and in this day and age 37k a year is not much for all the things i have to deal with doing my job.
In my field youre constantly learning, it never stops, theres so much i still need to learn, the college certificate was only basically an intro to hvac. Theres numerous people who got hired just out of boces, or other trade schools that even though they passed the classes/program, they couldnt understand it in real life, and got let go.
Its definitely not for everyone, and is in very high demand, the people who left or company have not been replaced yet. Some leave for stupid things maybe more money, or tired of office bullshit. But it takes forever to get replacement service technicians. But at least it gives me value even though ive only been doing this for like 3 or 4 years, i dont even remember how long ive been doing it because it feels like non stop work but it goes by so fast, the days never drag. I get 1wk vacation, my 2nd week will be after 5yrs.
Its so hard to find people i can see our wages increasing a lot in the up coming years. The people with 10-20yrs experience make around $30/hr, i feel a $2/hr raise each year for the next five years for myself will be resonable. Thats my thought.
I used to work water treatment part time and that was only $13\hr.
Blaming Fox News for the ails of today’s society is the cool thing to do.
That said, mainstream news blows.
They don’t want to look at data because it would prove how left leaning the media really is. Chris Christie’s aid sets up some fake construction on the bridge and the mainstream media acts like it’s Watergate all over again. Hillary Clinton’s inaction leads to the death of 4 Americans in Benghazi, she flat out lies about it, then hides behind her personal email server she’s not supposed to have and the media is like, “Meh, it’s some right wing witch hunt”.
