ahh i hate the sound of them… my one buddy just got them for his grafs and he said he said he already wants to get rid of them. but then i know other people who love them. its a love hate kinda thing lol
ive only noticed the sound differance once…
the thing is, ever time i sharpen my skates, it takes me 1 or 2 sessinos to get them to where i like them… then i only get 1 or 2 sessions on them where i like them…
then its time to sharpen again…
maybe great skate just sucks at sharpening…
is there anywhere else to go?
try holidays rinks or liesure rinks i used get my mine all the time i always liked them.
Skater’s Edge in Amherst.

Call to see if they still sharpen hockey skates. My friend’s parents own it but were getting away from hockey but they never did me wrong.
yea dont go to great skate my cousin use to work there and i can tell you first hand a lot of people that work there dont even play hockey or know anything about it… i go to holiday or leisure and sharpen my skates once a week im normally on the ice about 5 times a week. holiday and leisure are the place to go !
Your first problem is you go to Great Skate.
Holiday normally does a good job, it depends what person you get. I normally go to Leisure and rarely have a problem. The few times I have I just take them back tell them they fucked them up and they’ll redo them for free.
Friend of mine has T blades. They cost about $20 vs $5 for sharpening. He says he doesn’t get 4 times the use out of them, so I can’t see how its cost effective then. Plus I hate the sound of T blades.
holiday is my new favorite place for sharpening lately
When you guys go to holiday, are you just handing over your skates? or are they asking you how you want them sharpened (which hollow/rocker etc)
+1
holiday always does a good job on my skates.
brian, i was actually considering t-blades as well, but they are pretty expensive, and i still suck pretty bad at hockey. i guess i will stick with my 80 dollar vapor 12s…
i just hand them over, they haven’t done me wrong yet haha
I was playing a camp at holiday for my buddy and got my skates sharpened during lunch. dude totally flattened out my rocker, and i had no inside edge. I had to pay $30 to get them reprofiled
great skate sucks as well
I only go to chris at pepsi (older guy with glasses). he knows whats up.
if you don’t like how sharp they are, find what hollow is right for you. many places sharpen forward skates on 3/8" hollow. Ask for 1/2" hollow next time. I get my goalie skates sharpened on 1/4" (sharper than my player skates) and it only takes like 1 minute for them to set the stone.
As far as t blades go, yes they make more noise and it is always noticeable. Everyone I’ve talked to (besides ipod man, who doesn’t even use laces) hates t-blades and always switches back
yea the old guy at pepsi is good too… thats a hike for me though and when i’m there the proshop is already closed… stinks you had a bad experience at holiday they’ve been great for me. i made the mistake of having one of the kids at pepsi do mine once, they were HORRIBLE so i knew enough not to make that mistake again haha
hahah the dude with the zip-ties hahahah he was saying how he doesnt like laces because useing zip ties makes people know hes crazy ahhah that was the first convo i had with the guy
i sharpen my skates like once a year, but i also have a stone. It was annoying trying to yell at ipod that the white team had one to many skaters
lol @ ipod guy. crazy mother fucker
Ipod gave me a 3 day long charlie horse last game… i couldnt skate/walk for the next couple of days because he nailed me knee to thigh full speed last wednesday session.
I guess ill take my skates to holiday and see how that goes… i may try 1/2 hollow and see how that goes
btw it wasn’t dan or fish who effed up my skates, it was the old guy
Also theres a guy on Transit road between Broadway and Gould street(Hidden Shamrock) that runs the bicycle store, he also sharpens ice skates, i hear from alot of guys i skate with that he does a great job and actually cares about doing a good job. I also hear the Skaters Edge is where its at, you usually have to drop yer skates off for awhile or a whole day, even making an appointment is reccomended. I always ask for my skates to get a specific hollow at Holiday, they usually do a good job, Pat George who is an older guy(late 40’s i think) does a great job, last i heard he was only working early sunday mornings tho.
