Bing, you are comparing the GTA area to Buffalo. You have to look at the big picture. How many more good paying jobs are there in the GTA compared to Buffalo?

If Buffalo had a good economy the housing would be expensive too.

there are lots of good paying jobs in buffalo… i know several of you guys are kicking ass.

i consider the purchasing price parity in Buffalo to be higher than in the GTA.

making $120k in the GTA is like making $80k in buffalo… and several of you guys are doing that.

While that may be true in some instances, it’s imporant to know what you’re getting to. I mean, when you factor in closing costs, taxes, repairs, maintenance, responsibilities, etc., you really have a lot extra on your plate, compared to renting. Just giving a potential buyer in this thread something else to think about.

However, I would encourage anyone on here looking to buy a house, to invest in the city. Buffalo needs good people to make the slow turn around it’s starting to make. Some see it, some don’t. I believe in people making the difference. That’s one of the reasons I bought my house. I know it may sound cynical, but I haven’t lost all faith in the human populace just yet.

Yeah closing costs are a real bear. I think we paid close to 6g’s and that was after shopping several banks to find the lowest.

good thing mine and my gf’s credit was in good order and i work for the bank i went through (m & t). Had the appraisal fee waived for putting 10% down and very good credit. I also save 1% on my loan rate.

I went with a bi-weekly mortgage. should be paid off in 24 years or less. But i really only have a 5 year or so plan for this house. hopefully i’ll get into another slightly larger house and rent this one out.

Me and my girl got $8000 in Grants for closing costs, inspector, lawyer fees, etc. We didnt pay a dollar out of pocket. This was perfect timing because she then doubled her salary
