NYSpeed is growing up v. Home Purchase

BTW if anyone who is looking for a home wants to work with a guy who knows his stuff I can recommend a great agent as well as attorney.

congrats!!! I close on my first home in two weeks

How are the taxes? My escrow payment is roughly +50% on top of my mortgage thanks to NY taxes.

Fuck I’ve never thought of it that way before. :barf:

Baller shit Jay! Can’t wait to get in to mine! Nice job and beautiful house

While that may be true in some instances, it’s imporant to know what you’re getting to. I mean, when you factor in closing costs, taxes, repairs, maintenance, responsibilities, etc., you really have a lot extra on your plate, compared to renting. Just giving a potential buyer in this thread something else to think about.

However, I would encourage anyone on here looking to buy a house, to invest in the city. Buffalo needs good people to make the slow turn around it’s starting to make. Some see it, some don’t. I believe in people making the difference. That’s one of the reasons I bought my house. I know it may sound cynical, but I haven’t lost all faith in the human populace just yet.

Here’s a thought to ponder. Usually once a week, after garbage day, I walk down my street with a garbage bag, and pick up trash. You’d be shocked at how many people notice. I mean it takes 15 minutes a weeks TOPS, and it’s funny, I’ve noticed less and less trash out there, every week I’ve done it. Sometimes a little effort goes a long way, especially when others see you going out of your way.

PT Cruiser FTL

other than that, congrats mang!

i lost all faith in Buffalo when some crackhead watched me leave for work at the same time everyday and robbed me while i was at work. i didnt work many many many hours to pay for something just so some scumbag can take it from me. so now im in the stiqs where no crackhead wants to be.

Thanks and…

Ok, that’s tough, but you know what? You have insurance for a reason. Not that that completely softens the blow, but it’s something in return.

But honestly, if good people keep leaving the city, what/who do you think will be left? Just food for thought…that’s all I’m saying. If we want this city to turn around, WE have to do it.

Sorry for the hijack.

Fry, i’m not sure how excrow payments work, but i could buy 4 houses in Buffalo for the price i just paid for mine in Hamilton. Hamilton has the cheapest real estate in the GTA.

to give you an example, Joe’s (91MR2) house in a similar neighbourhood in Toronto would be over $600,000 on account of his garage.

we also have highe property taxes, sales taxes, income taxes etc.

$200 a month for health insurance in the US just balances it out…

Joe’s house is not really a clear representation of the cost of houses in buffalo though bing, he bought it from a friend and such…

also, i’d be curious to see the taxes in your area compared to NYS, there are some rather pricey areas in buffalo. Snyder for example, property taxes you are easily looking at 7-8K a year for an average sized plot of land.

Yeah, but still, I didn’t get a “deal” really, I mean, I paid the going rate. Either way, you’re right, except that Snyder might as well be a suburb. It’s damn nice in snyder and sure looks the part of a suburb.

welcome to the club Jay.

Nice looking place, smart investment.

And, +1 on 1 project at a time. We didn’t need to do anything more then paint our palce when we bought it. Then the ideas started becoming trips to Home Depot & True Value… lol, oy.

they aren’t that high. 3500-5500 depending on the house.

You have anything to back that up?

I ask because a family member has a 4ksq ft 400k house in that area and doesn’t pay that much in taxes.

:gotme:

www.buffaloniagarahomes.com has real eastate listing that include taxes.

$12,097.

Bing, you are comparing the GTA area to Buffalo. You have to look at the big picture. How many more good paying jobs are there in the GTA compared to Buffalo?

If Buffalo had a good economy the housing would be expensive too.

Exactly. If the city actually turns around, you can expect the cost of housing to jump. I’m addicted to the Sell My House, Flip My House, etc shows on tv. I love seeing that a house that is comparable in size to mine sells for $600-800k in other areas. Now if local government and upstate got their heads out of their asses, we can possibly do something to this area. And people will come back.

:word:
I love it when they say,“What a big back yard” and the backyard is like 10’x20’.
I have 15 acres and 3x the house and mine isn’t worth 1/2 of what they are.:smash2:
Locatio, location, location.

i’ll be paying around $3k cdn in property tax

by the end of 2008 that will be $4k USD…

unless you guys vote a dem into office, then it will take until 2009 to be $4k usd.
