are you trying to start by UB or start by the water? I may be down, pending I can get a ride to or from ub (the e34 needs a tps, not sure I’ll get one in time)
start in amherst… better/safer parking
anybody?
thats a fun ride
BTW when that gets close to the water, by mississippi mudds or what ever the fuck its called. It gets REALLY REALLY busy. be prepared for cruising at 10mph in most spots. after that though it smooths out for the later half of the ride
yea, ive been riding it almost every day… its only crowded for ~ 1 mile strech… after that its smooth sailing
I usually ride it one a weekish, the crowding isn’t terribly bad yet. I’d be all for it but I doubt I could keep up on my single speed tank of a bike once past the busy areas otherwise I’d be all for joining in. Most definitely a good ride though.
if you’re riding the bike from me it’s single speed, not fixed gear hombre
I thought single was fixed? Learn something new every day, terminology escapes me. :o
hmmmm i might be in for something like this
though i’ll be riding a 21 speed mountain bike…hmmmm
when we planning this for?
single means you can still coast. i think it usually refers to cogs w/o pedal brakes though.
but fixed means the cog is fixed to the wheel. can’t coast, no pedal brakes, etc. the only way to stop is to provide resistance, know what I mean?
btw I don’t mean to be a hater but you can’t really ride mountain bikes with roadbikes. I did it once on a ~30 mile ride, my buddy was on a mountain bike and by the end he was literally a mile behind, covered in sweat from hauling ass
yes, trying to keep up with roadies on a mountain is going to be a PITA especially if the mountain bike has suspension…
each pedal stroke looses about 30% of its power because of suspension flex, so you are going to have to work that much harder, if you want to try im all for you showing up…
i normally cruise this route ~18-19 MPH
DING DING* I ride fixed and I can also flip what side the cog is on so I can coast. I have not tried that yet seeing I need to skid to stop… Fixed is a really good work out IMHO…
I would be down for this if more people with Mountain Bikes wanted to do this. I have road tires on it so it would not be to bad. Road last night from N.Buffalo to Xanders and it took about 22min. No way in hell could I keep up with you guys on road bikes, I would be better off on the fixed gear but I would want to shoot my self by the end…
I average about 15.5 on my Mountain Bike… It would be about 12 if I did not have slicks on.
yeah, I have a flip flop hub on my fixed gear too but I’ve never used the single speed. I took off my brakes so I couldn’t stop with ss. I love my fixed gear, and VERY seldom ride my geared bike. like once in the past couple years. However my fixed got a flat by the grain elevators sunday, patched it but I gotta throw in a new tube and pull the rear wheel back a bit. I’m lazy, so I haven’t done that yet.
rode my geared bike yesterday and was actually pretty into it. fixed tops out around 19mph, geared more like 31 32. I like riding the fixed better, you feel a LOT more connected and it’s a better workout on the quads (where a lot of power for skating comes from, helps with hockey) but I like how fast you can go with gears
34 miles for this route, and its pretty flat…
the 44 mile route for R4R has a couple of hills, but nothign too bad
id be down to try with my mtn bike ill stress try
Does saturday ~ 1pm work for everybody interested in trying?
we could shorten up the ride to aprox 30 miles for the mountain bikes
saturdays don’t work for me, i work all day
and riding with mountain bikers suxxxxx
