Exactly. Hell, Peters plays his heart out, but he shouldn’t have a spot on the team. Looking at the stat sheets there are easily 3 or 4 forwards who a good coach would have benched for Max, even if it’s just to get some trade interest and pick up someone else.
IMHO Ruff has just been around too long. The players are inconsistent because they know exactly what they can and can’t get away with. They know who his favorites are. He has no fresh ideas and the same problems the Sabres had three years ago continue to plague them today.
Take an honest look at the talent on that roster and tell me this is a team that should be sitting in 9th place. If you agree there is enough talent that they should be a playoff team then where do you place the blame?
Send down one way contract players for a semi washed up expendable player :roflpicard: Dont get me wrong, Ellis has been solid and a hard worker but please.

i think you guys commenting on the “effort” are missing the point…if your half assing it around, your not going to get as many chances as someone who is busting their ass and getting into good situations. even if that guy doesn’t have as much skill, all it takes is a funny bounce and you know the rest…
and when your having as much trouble scoring as we are recently, the effort is going to be what turns it around, why do you think so many coaches etc preach about “getting back to basics” during a slump. get the puck deep, pressure their defense, create turnovers , go to the net and just start shooting. sounds like the guy who’s giving me more effort is going to be who i’d want out in that situation
Looking at this team’s talent, we are exactly where you’d expect, a borderline playoff team, especially with Vanek out the last month, and Miller being out our last few games. Without those two, we have almost no big time players, maybe roy and pominville, and our defense hasn’t been strong since we lost McKee and Campbell go.
We’re undersized in a league that’s converting back to pre-lockout physical hockey. We had a few good years with Drury/Briere but we’ve given up too much talent and tried to replace it with AHL’ers
Exactly the thing that is killing us on offense. The first 2 lines are trying to drag the puck through defenders and get cute in the offensive zone. This clearly is not working. Screen the goaltender and fire pucks at the net.

Ruff has his favorites and its obvious. Kotalik has a lot of skill, but gets very little ice time. He should have benched Pomminville a while ago.
All the Ruff humpers on here need to open their eyes.
Ruff isn’t a bad coach, he just sometimes makes bad decisions. Pomminville needs a break.
Maybe they will move Ruff up to the Hockey dept and away from coaching…
I think Ruff’s problem is that he is a defense man. You can see how he plays a defensive game, not taking chances, always having the players go in on the boards to avoid a break away or odd-man rush if a mistake is made. He plays WAY too defensively!
As soon as we are 3 goals ahead you can see his attitude changes and the entire team starts to take the chances that help them score even more. He doesn’t yell at them to be conservative, which allow goals to be made!
If you watch Pittsburgh, you can see an entirely offensive type of play compared to us, allowing their main power players to get scoring chances and make plays a lot better than us.
We go around in circles in the enemy end, with two players behind the net getting a puck and when it gets put out front there is nobody there! Where are they, you ask? They’re being defensive sitting further back towards the blue line in case a puck ends up in the hands of the other team, so that they avoid an odd-man rush and/or opportunity from the other team.
This is why we don’t score much… we have a defense man as a coach.

The one end of the ice where we have been so terrible has been in our own end and not being able to clear the zone.
The problem in the offensive zone is not pulling the trigger when a shot is open. Only lately has it been an issue with getting someone in front.
