Official 08-09 Penguins Thread

They did…they went from playing your divisional teams 8 times/year to 6 times/year. Then we play each Western conf team at least once.

Hmm, nice. I didn’t look through the schedule that much and I thought that change was coming next season.

I cant wait for the season, ESPN ranked us #1 in the East…

I say Pittspeed meet at one of the games!!

That’s cool I guess. I think next season should be fun…well I think the next 10-15 seasons should be pretty fun to watch.

As for a meet…that would be rough to plan. You would have to get tickes the day they go on sale.

A lot of analysts ranked us the top team coming out of the lockout when we signed Ziggy Palffy and John LeClair to name a few. So I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Pens will still be amazing though, no matter what.

As we all know the ground was officially broken yesterday for construction of the new arena. Awesome this is finally on it’s way. Here are some pics of what it is going to look like once finished…looks like it is going to be a top notch facility.

Ryan Whitney out 3-5 months after corrective surgery for a misalignment of his foot.

He’s known about this since the 06-07 playoffs.

If you’ve known that long, why wait until just before the season? Why not do it right after the finals? I don’t get it.

I heard they wanted to use surgery as a last resort. I am sure this past season they were trying to treat the problem. I have a feeling for this offseason they put it off for a possible maybe??? But then I would think there has to be some kind of rule against that. Good think we are stacked on D this season. Letang and Goligoski should step it up this year I would think. I know we haven’t seen much of Goligoski, but from the few games he played he did look good, and Letang showed he has great ability as well.

10 more days till preseason wooohooo

also bics you might want to redo you sig and take malone off that pic :sadwavey:

Who’s Malone? :reloading

The prospects started camp today in Canada…I think next week is when everyone else starts here.

Yeah I do need to update the sig…humm who to replace Malone…maybe Gonch…sykora…or nobody>?

gotta do all the young kids! take out lemieux and malone put in letang and kennedy

Lemieux stays. Letang may go in…toss up between him or gonchar.

Crosby on Hossa. November 11th will be a great game.

Can copy and paste it in a quote…blocked site at my work.

No doubt

If you are among the hockey fans who were shocked to see Marian Hossa end up in Detroit this offseason, you’re not alone.

Marian Hossa signed a one-year, $7.45 million deal with Detroit this past summer.

Sidney Crosby was equally stunned, especially after bumping into Hossa at a Bahamas resort in June and going home convinced he was going to get his star winger back in the Penguins’ fold.

“When it did first happen, I was pretty surprised,” Crosby recently told ESPN.com. “I thought he was coming back. There wasn’t a big question in my mind; I was looking forward to playing with him again. It was just a matter of how long was he going to sign for. But then, as things developed, I found out other teams were in the mix. So when he didn’t sign, it’s nothing personal.”

(After being acquired by the Pens at this past season’s trade deadline, Hossa signed a one-year, $7.45 million deal with Detroit this summer.)

“For me, I had a great time playing with him, and I would have loved to play with him for five years or whatever. But he had a right to go to any team he wanted to. I have a lot of respect for him.”

I doubt Hossa was trying to make the Penguins look bad, but when the Slovak star told the Detroit media he signed with the Red Wings because he wanted to win a Cup, you have to wonder how that made the captain of the Penguins feel just weeks after Pittsburgh lost to Detroit in the Stanley Cup finals.

“I thought about the same thing, but I think the most important thing when you hear that is you have to put yourself in his shoes,” Crosby said. "He’s looking at a team that won the Stanley Cup, which isn’t losing anyone, and then adds himself – a world-class player. And they just beat us. So really, if you look on paper and you had to answer the same question, which team would you pick? That’s fine. All [the] other 29 teams don’t go into the season saying Detroit is going to win. It’s not the way it works.

“But if you’re looking for a straight odds-on favorite for next year, I think everyone would tell you Detroit. I think that’s thinking realistically. But are we saying, ‘He went to Detroit so they’re going to win’? No. We’re going to try and get back there and win.”

Here’s guessing Crosby won’t have to pump up his teammates for their Nov. 11 game in Detroit. Penguins players won’t say it publicly, but I can’t imagine they don’t feel somewhat betrayed.
