Official Android thread

Any good icon source?

Yay, so the premier phone gets the almost latest OS on the two shittiest networks in the country, while #1 and #2 are still sitting on an OS that’s months out of date.

welcome to the hell that is verizon and android. fucking sucks.

Root & Rom…will try CM10 later tonight probably…just did a backup of my apps.

I’m too paranoid for Roms… at the moment. I think I am just becoming more paranoid in general as I get older.

I’m on AT&T.

July 9th 2012 JB was released by google. More than 5 months later arguably the most popular high end android phone, the S3, is still waiting for the OS update on the two biggest carriers in the US. How do you Apple haters/Droid fanboys defend this? You know who got iOS 6 the day it launched? Anyone that wanted it, even on iPhones as old as the 3GS that launched in 2009. If you’ve got a 2009 Android phone it’s probably still running Froyo unless you hacked it.

Root n rom is the only way to defend it. I’ve been hoping it will get better. Even bought a nexus device hoping I would get updates immediately. Verizon still manages to fuck it up. At this point I’m basically done. Probably getting an iPhone 5s since I’m up for upgrade in august.

Fragmentation lolz

and all those 3gs’s run ios6 pretty badly. Even iphone 4’s are having trouble.

If only I could make my S3 run iOS6. Best hardware + best OS = win.

How many of you who are so pro one side/anti the other have actually OWNED phones from both sides?

You can post reviews all you want but look at what really matters, and that’s people’s experiences. The week iOS 6 was released my facebook was flooded with people mad about their iphones running like shit, and their contacts disappearing. And it hasn’t stopped either.

I don’t doubt that users are able to fuck up any update. But the fact remains that it runs fine on older hardware when it’s done right, vs it not even being an option to update on the android side.

Didn’t answer my question either. Have you ever actually owned an iPhone?

Weird nobody in my family has had iOS 6 issues outside of it turning off auto connect to wireless after the initial upgrade.

I have owned multiple android phones/tablets and just about every model iPhone since they came out.

I keep explaining this most people don’t feel like having to hack their phone to run a custom rom so it operates properly hopefully the carriers find a way to push major releases quicker.

S3 is a great phone but with out the latest code :tif:

Why do people still have 3gs devices? They should be due for upgrade by now. Stop owning shitty old hardware.

It’s not really a direct problem with Android though, it’s the fggt careers that hold the update so they can load their shit into it. Rooting and romming is made out to be like this monumental task. It’s not. I mean I guess it’s not the most convenient, but it offers users the ability to change roms, get new features that might not even be out for any version of Android, get performance increases, etc. I like that option.

I don’t follow the phone scene have the carriers ever said why they wait?

testing. they’re the ones that support the device when it’s broken, not the manufacturer.

I figured Apple owners were salivating over the latest device and would sell off children if they could to own it.

Apple updates are different that Android. Google sends it out then the carriers have to test and install all the bloatware. Apple just sends it out and says FU carriers.
