4.2 is super nice.
I have been on release 6 for 2 days now.
you will have to put the phone on her line and activate it, then you have to wait 24 hours before you can reactivate that sim card on your line
basically
activate on her line
put old phone back on her line (either online or *228)
wait 24 hours
put phone on your line through customer service
as long as you know what you are getting yourself into and are ok paying 100-200 for a new dumb phone then by all means.
most people just think those phones are free all the time, and they have been customers for 30 years so why are they just giving them a phone? they pay verizon hundreds of dollars each month they should get something for it. they are switching to att, they have free phones over there
Got the Droid DNA… so far I love it. Also got to keep the unlimited data plan which is awesome. Worth checking out.
I think that I am set on the Samsung note II, I am going to go see how it feels to hold a cereal box to my head before ordering.
I think my S3 is pushing the limits for how big I’d want my phone but I have to admit the Note II looks interesting.
Anyone have a jig for the Samsung phones? I’m pretty sure I hard bricked my phone tonight. Thanks. Any other options?
use odin on it.
I don’t know what you’re asking for. A jig is usually a fixture that holds something while it is being machined. I don’t know what that would have to do with a broken phone.
Post some details on what you did and what the phone’s doing now. They can be hard bricked, but 99% of the time there’s a way to recover it. Which phone? Which carrier?
What ProgRocker said…
what model samsung? Search youtube username QBking77’s videos for “soft bricked (insert phone name here)”
he’s very helpful and does a full how-to complete with the links you need for Odin and the files to use with it to repair your phone. I’ve soft bricked my Galaxy S like 4 times now and still use his method/vid each time to bring it back
Lol I’ve softbricked my old Epic 4G and my Galaxy Numerous times…always a way out. Odin is pretty much the fuck you tool for a phone. If you can’t get it working with Odin, you really fucked up.
Haha, well I did one of the more dumb things in my life last night. I traded my nexus for a gs3 on verizon and ran home and rooted it right away. I was in a hurry for god knows why… and I flashed a rom made for the i9000 or somthing for GSM. So I double fucked myself, hard bricked and cant get past a black screen with no notification light. Odin doesn’t work, nor does anything because my PC can’t recognize it. I have flashed probably 20-30 ROMs on GNex and mess up this one so badly. No idea why I didn’t use my brain at all… any who. There is a company in Texas that claims they can fix hard bricked phones so I sent my phone out west with $60 wrapped around it(not literally).
edit: oh and I tried holding all sorts of button combos down on it and received no feedback from any of them. I researched this for about 3 hours last night. Sucks, oh well… life goes on. Being phoneless is weird… I have a loaner coming in tomorrow.

This post made me choose to go the way I did.

My phone doesn’t go past a black screen, no led light or anything.
Sorry to say but that most probably is a hard-brick; you won’t be able to revive it without hardware. In best-case scenario a JIG (I’ll explain below) otherwise you need to have it JTAG’ed by a repair shop.
However before you do; try pulling the battery for 30 minutes, plugging it into the charger for a few hours, pulling the battery again for 30 minutes and then try to start it.

What does this mean to the layman "a USB-Jig
A JIG is a Micro-USB plug without the cable which has only 2 of the 5 connectors (MicroUSB has 5 instead of the normal 4 pins) in use;
they are bridged via a 301 kOhm Resistor (Electronic component) which triggers the phone to go in Download mode even if it doesn’t react to anything else and have been designed for easy restoration through Samsung shops. However they are easy to come by (± 2 bucks on eBay) or to build yourself (you need only very little soldering skills)
Should a JIG not be sufficient, you need the phone JTAG’ed. JTAG is a sort of “standard” to access the internal circuitry of a device and execute commands on it. In this case to re-flash the stage1 bootloader to gain access to Download mode.
Most people are familiar with it as being the means of jailbreaking Xbox1’s and the first generation of Xbox360.
However these devices are rather expensive (± 200 to 300 bucks for a phone-kit) so you’ll have to go to a repair shop which should cost around 20 bucks.

Jig.

I figured it would be better to send it out and have a phone back in a week or two and pay $60 then to buy a jig wait a week see if it works. Then send out the phone after that anyway (probably wouldn’t work)…
you probably could have PM’d Luke_L with that explanation of a JIG and he could have made it for you.
FUCK LUKE_L, yea i didnt think of that shit… lol
yeah, as soon as it said “simple soldering and a resistor” I immediately thought Luke_L
Here’s another stupid cell phone mistake for you guys to learn from:
So I’ve got this 80 cent USB OTG cable I got from Amazon. (USB On The Go is basically a male microusb connector on one end and a normal USB female on the other so you can host other USB devices with your phone as if you phone were a PC.) It’s worked well the few times I’ve used it, though the male end was too long and kind of loose. So right before I left for the airport yesterday I plugged in my nook to transfer an epub file from my phone to my Nook. As soon as the connector touched the phone the screen went black. The phone is totally dead. No lights. No nothing. PC doesn’t recognize it. D-E-D dead. If I leave it charging the area on the phone near the port gets warm but the battery doesn’t at all. Something must have shorted out.
Verizon won’t warranty it because the screen’s cracked. I didn’t push too hard since it was probably my cheap ass connector that killed it anyway. Insurance replacement is in the mail on its way to my hotel.
Traveling without a phone sucks.
FUUU. You can’t even wipe a phone with Odin or root it via the PC unless you have a decent cable.
Yeah ODIN can be fussy. I was fighting with it for a while before I figured out that it just doesn’t like one of the ports on my laptop.
LOL after it happened I wanted to text Geehee and tell him to shut up because I can hear him in my ear bitching about people who plug 99 cent chinese no-name accessories into a $600 dollar pocket computer and then bitch about the outcome. I wanted to. But I couldn’t. Because my phone was broken.
LMAO :bigclap:
Without reading through 3000+ posts, I have a 3 year old Motorola Droid that I want to upgrade from. What is the best phone out there for replacement? I really don’t want to “waste” 20 hours researching new phones. lol
